I guess I like it because I can go to a growler station here locally and for about $2 more than the cost of a 64oz growler I can get 4 16oz. I am way more likely to invest in a pint unseen vs a whole growler

I can see that. I am getting my growler fills from brewpubs - typically after I've sampled some beers and decided which one I want to take home more of.

My growler fills usually come from my bottle shop opposed to brewpub or brewery so grabbing a single pint of something is nice when I want that for the night especially if its a work night.

Some of those beer's, like big barrel aged barley wines or stouts, I don't really want more than 12oz of in a weekend but 16oz is still better than fully committing to 32. Its not necessarily the cost difference that I'm worried about it is the potential waste of beer or obligation I feel to finish all 32oz of something I really only wanted a glass of.

I guess I just don't think of growlers as a primary beer-for-home purchasing method unless it's from a brewery too small to package beer.

Up until a recent law change, growler fills in PA were limited to bars and brewpubs. Beer distributors just got the ability last month.

Just relaying my experiences with it, don't know the science behind it.

But I do know that every time I leave half a 32 oz growler in the fridge overnight, it is almost completely flat by the next day, from multiple breweries and multiple types of 32 oz growlers.

Just because you do not understand another's reasoning, it does not make it dumb
