Why no Cider (or Mead) listings?

    So, I am still relatively new here and I am wondering why BA doesn't have Cider or Mead listings. I switched to beer because I had sort of run out of new ciders to try in Maryland, and I had found some beers that I had liked: Ruination and Midas Touch. Ratebeer has a lot of cider listings on there and some mead as well. I realize that it consists of different taste and scent notes, but that is it. I would expect there to be Crispin, Fox Barrel and some B. Nektar stuff on here. I mean cider is making quite the comeback as well.

    The quick, snotty answer is b/c that stuff ain't beer. There used to be a cider listing, but it went away.
    I think cider, mead and beer should be separate anyway. Gott a draw the line somewhere.

    I agree. As much as I'd love trading meads (I live by Kuhnhenn, B. Nektar and Ken Schramm...) it's just beginning to blur the line between what is and isn't beer. I think Braggot is as far down the mead line as we can go. Once the door is open to mead (a honey wine) what stops us from going all the way to grape wines? The line is drawn and it seems to work.

    While I would definitely love to see cider / mead / spirits / etc. listed on here, at the same time I can acknowledge that BeerAdvocate isn't the place for it. :slight_frown:
