I couldn't find this question earlier in the forum history (as it may be a stupid question), but why not forties of craft beer? Obviously not an option for an ABV 5+, but an Oberon or Motor City Ghetto Blaster from an ice cold freezer may not be terrible on a summer afternoon. So give me good reasons for and against the forty bottle. If you are for the forty bottle, make a recommendation!

Bottle is to big, when I'm feet up relaxing drinking beer I don't want it in a big awkward bottle. just my opinion

For sharing. I've purchased 3 liter bottles for that reason, I love big!

I prefer Forties over Shorties, Best Believe! I like HG Lagers in the 40 ounce format. I'd wish more "Craft" Brewers would make an option of the Forty. Yet, I would be the only one purchasing...:slight_frown:

I wasted years on 40's and, as much as I loved it, it doesn't seem right. I don't think great beer is captured in that vessel. Just me. We can disagree. I'll still say cheers.

16 oz cans imo is the best vessel on the market. Don't like 40s, don't like Ponys either.

So is a growler and I've never heard anyone complain about those because ... you know ... it doesn't matter when you pour it into a glass like a civilized human being.

hahahaha your right I'm sorry I was thinking of high school drinking straight out of the bottle....No problem with that size at all if the beer is good and I have a glass to use lol

Growlers aside, traditionally there's not a big demand for craft beer in larger containers, so typically it's more expensive for them to offer the larger container because of economy of scale effects. Compare $/oz between 12 oz can/bottle vs 22 oz ["bomber"]bottles and you'll usually find the 12oz is significantly cheaper by the oz. If they can't offer a 40-oz cheaply, then many beer buyers [craft or otherwise] will likely choose something else.

There are some 1.5 L "magnum" bottles from Anchor, Duvel, Chimay, Gulden Draak, and a few other breweries, but you can expect to pay a pretty penny for them.

@beer_pilgrim Funny you mention Bell's Oberon because you can get that [and other Bells beers] in 5-gallon mini-kegs.

I know in my younger days, a 40oz of Old E or Miller High Life was my go to. If there was a 40oz of Two Hearted Ale or Duet, maybe I would consider. But since I like IPA's really cold, I'll stick with 12oz, 16.9oz and at most 22oz.

One thing to note, if they do come in 40oz bottles, the higher price will be a game changer or some. I know for me it will.

I could see SNPA, Two Hearted, Dale's Pale in 40 ouncers but not if they're going to be priced using bomber logic

40s are novelty for pisswater. (In florida we get quarts instead so they're still a novelty when I go out of state). But your beer gets warm. That's the best reason not to put good beer in it. I mean I would love to see a 40 of a 12% RIS, but the container is generally aimed at lighter beers, the same ones that you don't want to warm up.

I just heard a local brewpub is considering making a malt liquor to sell in 40's. "Just cuz", was the reason he gave. Gotta be honest, I'd buy it.

Sometimes the occasion calls for a large bottle...like a backyard hardcore show in East LA lol. I know Ive enjoyed pounding a 32oz bottle of Lagunitas Sucks in such instances. But other than that, I much prefer 16 oz cans.

Are you f@#$ing kidding me, we're finally getting craft breweries to ditch the 22(ish) oz bombers... if you want 40oz crack open a few bottles or cans.
