I have a 64 oz and a 32 oz in my car at all times, but most of the time, I prefer to get the 32 oz filled for drinking and cost reasons.

When I find someone with a BBA Imperial Stout, and they are willing to give me a fill to go, getting a 64 oz filled would be a budget buster. With a 32oz, I can (and have on multiple occasions) get a fill, bring it home, and share it with friends. I'd have to have a lot more friends if I had a bigger jug.

I only buy Growlers of beer I really love. 64 oz is less than a 6-pack, so they don't last long with me.

4 pints is the perfect amount. With two growlers you can have 8 pints. Sometimes that's even better.

I love 32 oz. fills because it's easier to get variety, and I'm less worried about buying something and being stuck with 64 oz. to get through. For instance, the Half Acre "The Hammer, The Bullet and the Vise" that I'm drinking right now - I got a taste at the brewery, but it's a less than hot style (English brown) that I don't drink all that often. The quick taste that I had was good, but there is no way I would have walked out with 64 oz. of it. It's just too much if I tire of it (for the record I'm enjoying it).

The 64 oz. of Intergalactic Warrior that a friend brought me from Decorah, on the other hand ...

Yeah our local stores in AL offer a 32oz or 64oz fill. Those are the only options. I have a couple of each size, they will fill whatever you bring them.

Kane Brewing here in Jersey has the nicest looking 1 liter growler. Makes so much sense for me.

Why should they sell 32oz growlers when most people will buck up for a 64oz anyway?

For me it depends on the beer and the activity. I like the 32s for the simple reason of variety. I have a few of them and I can get two filled instead of just one 64oz fill. For the higher ABV beers it works out perfect for me. Like many other people mentioned I keep a 32 and 64oz in the car at all times just in case there's something good to take home.

Do you think this will catch on???

Call 64 oz bottles Growlers, call 32 oz/1 liter Cubs, and anything bigger than 64 oz, call Grizzlies

32oz growlers are hugely popular in my area, in fact it's really all I buy in growler format. Maybe it's more popular on the east coast. There is a great store in Mamaroneck, NY called Half Time that sells 12oz growlers made for sampling.

I just feel like if I'm making the trip, I'm filling 64's (or my HF 2L's). My drive to NEBCO is about 25 minutes, so when you consider the wait in line, I'm giving up an ample amount of my time. Unless it's a big beer, and I'm talking 9%+, I'll fill a big growler. If it's a beast of a beer, I have a few 32 oz that are options which I have no problem doing.

I also find it very comforting that other people travel with growlers in their cars. I did that all summer long, haven't in a while, but will be starting again. You never know when something gets added to the rotation and plans change that call for an emergency run to the brewery.

I think your state's refusal to permit 64 oz. growlers is fucking ******ed...and so does everyone else. That being said...I prefer 32 oz. anyway. Even if I want 64 oz. of the same beer, I don't have to drink all 64 oz. at once. Perhaps when sharing with several people 64 oz. in one vessel is a good idea, but 32 oz. is perfect for me. 2 pints? Yeah. I can always drink 2 pints.

... and that brings one more possible reason. State laws may restrict sizes. Florida has its goofy 32oz, and 128oz, but not 64oz. Do other states allow the 1/2 gallons, but not the smaller size? It seems odd, but ?

Depends on where you are. Most growler fill stores in Birmingham offer 32oz, 64oz, and 1 gallon. Some stores also offer the 1 or 2 litre flip cap bottles, too.

I've only filled growlers at Hill Farmstead once - one of those things I had to do I guess. I was concerned about how I was going to finish a growler of Everett. One of my friends just told me to drink half, cap it, and drink the second half the following night. I only really noticed a slight difference in the beer between the two nights.

That said, I usually only buy growlers when I know I'll have at least one other person around to help finish them. I don't have many breweries that are convenient enough for me to go for growlers rather than just going to my local store.

Just reuse some empty 40oz bottles you find on the side of the freeway. Problem solved.
