I realize it has a 4.15 score so it is not like people hate the beer or what not, but why so little love for APW and so much for zombie dust and dreadnaught and alpha king? Is it because not enough people have truly had the beer fresh bc fff does not bottle date?? Personally, i like APW as much as heady topper and more than dreadnaught. I am Wondering if anyone else agrees that APW is underrated.

Not sure if it's underrated, I gave it an A on my site

I haven't had it in a long time. I remember when I first had it, I thought it was excellent. I'll have to revisit for sure.

Maybe it's because nobody can taste the RARE in it anymore now that it's more widely available.

I have never had a good experience with APW, I cannot say it is a good beer with a straight face. Zombie Dust is stellar, Dreadnaught great when fresh but APW just is lacking when compared to others.

Just had this and Dreadnaught for the 1st time this weekend. Thought the latter was very good and very drinkable but not super outstanding from the other top flight DIPAs. Arctic Panzer is a super tongue ripper, I liked it a lot, but it seemed waaay more extreme to me. Might be a bit too much for most folks to enjoy. Dunno though.

Certified fresh experiences? A lot of my underwhelmed friends changed opinions from it on tap versus bottle because bottles might not be fresh

I have not had it on tap but have had fresh bottles from the brewery.

I have had many IPAs that have been past their prime but many of them do not deliver such a lackluster performance. If a beer has to be consumed ridiculously fresh to be enjoyable I am inclined to question if it is a great beer.

I haven't had dreadnaught yet so I can't compare it, but its one of my favorite DIPA's to date.

First time I had this beer (from a bottle, first time they bottled it I believe) it blew me away, not sure if it was a stellar batch or it just hit me right for some reason. Unfortunately, I've bought a couple bottles since and they didn't come close to capturing the awesomeness of that first bottle. Since they don't bottle date and god knows how old bottles already are when they arrive at the store, I won't buy another.

That goes for all undated IPA/DIPA's these days, not worth the risk IMO...

All hoppy beer is of course better from the brewery or a fresh bomber from the brewery. The few times i've bought a Dreadnaught off a store shelf it had lost all its hoppy taste and was very malty. Now I just buy my stuff from the brewery when I go about twice a month. Favorite IIPA from them is the Cimmerian Sabertooth Berzerker.

I just had it last night, and I can assure you because it's not very good.

If you want an overly bitter beer where all you taste is hops. It's perfect.

But what I look for is a balance, Pliny is by far one of the best DIPA's and Zombie Dust is one of the best APA's because the malts are right up there to support the hops and give it drinkability, it's called a backbone. Without a solid backbone, APW is all hops... bitter, disappointing, and hardly drinkable.

I have to admit after a couple minutes after my taste buds were "shock-and-awed" by the hops, I started to taste the malts and a very slight citrus flavor to it... I could even taste the alcohol presense... it just wasn't pleasant. Dreadnaught was def. better.

I agree with this statement here. I probably wont trade for another one, but my rDev for the beer is a minicule. -0.02%

    Cheers![/quote]

I've had it twice, once with the new and once with the old label and thoroughly enjoyed it both times. Anyone who wants to get rid of theirs can send it my way.

I found it to be the opposite of this. Aggressively hopped, but loaded with piney/grassy juicy citrus flavors. Plenty of sweet and sour goodness

Of those flavors all are attributed to hops & yeast, so you're saying the same thing, lol. Hopped up with no malts.

    Bitter /= Sour

This is one of my favorite beers period and hands down my favorite Three Floyds beer that I've had to date. I'm not a huge fan of Dreadnaught and would take this over it every single time.
