Making people yearn for the days of old is something that has worked in marketing for many years. The staying power might eventually fade (as with anything), but it will certainly boost sales in the short-term. Cheers, and LARRRGE.

I’m a sucker for things that remind me of my younger days, I’d guess we all are to some degree. I love the look of the retro Schlitz cans, I’d buy it just on the look, it’s one reason why a good deal of the AAL marketing leans backwards sometimes. We don’t want new fangled Bud bottles.

Because the retro cans had style and were classy. There is a reason companies return to the original designs, the options today are not so great.

An off the wall example are Christmas Lights. Why are the old fashion ones so dam cool? We have endless tech today but many seek out the old stuff, they just have a classy feel.

    Cheers to old ways!

Your too young to know Shiny Brite Xmas balls, but if you can find a box you will pay $40-50 bucks for a box of 12. They might have sold for a buck a box, but add 60 years they’re expensive as hell. And yes I have a few boxes handed down from my mom that are as old as me I’d guess.

Because someone in marketing thought people would like the retro look and buy the beer?

Exactly. If your looking at buying an AAL a cool looking can could be all the difference. Waiting for someone to bring back the old steel cans and a real can opener.

Isn't there a brewery that requires a church key to open their cans? Church Key?

I think we could even take a leap here and compare it to the Vinyl come back. People are seeking out a return to the older times and things associated with it.
    Cheers

I've always liked the artwork on those centuries old European brewery labels. A shame more are going for a more colorful, dumbed down look to appeal to younger audiences.

I may have forgotten how the cans looked. Maybe should google…

Even if I'm not (very) young guess I'm in the "content is king" camp. Not very open-minded to retro marketing tricks. If there has been a visual evolution, so be it.

For most of my beer career it was about bottles btw, but then you have the labels, we of course can discuss them too in this thread…

Not every label needs NEON colors.

    Or avoid triggering someone.

I'll see ya on the Christmas lights, and as long as can/bottle art changes styles, backwards can be forwards, but look at these cans man and tell me the mouth doesn't water!

I’m back into vinyl too, take a look at the selling price of the Beatles White Album, I’ve seen $1000 for a Mint first pressing on what was a $3 album in 1972 or so.

There was a brewery called Churchkey Can Company but they went out of business. Apparently their 'retro' ran out?

    Cheers!

I'm going to avoid the "retro" word....but I really appreciate classic, timeless can art. Sierra Nevada is pretty iconic for a more "modern" example
