So this beer looks like it should be very interesting. Highest ABV beer NC had produced to date at 15.00%. I hear there may be some kind of preorder system? Does anyone know anything more about this? I know it's coming out on Halloween, should be a ton of fun. Especially for any Harry Potter fans!

Highest ABV beer a NC-brewery is allowed to make under the current laws (which caps at 15% ABV).

Yeah I'm interested to see what the pre-order stuff is about. It is gonna be brewery only, but I'm wondering if maybe they're going to let people come pick them up over a few different weekends or something.

"Count" me in. I expect you'll merge Vlad the Impaler and Voldemort for All Hallows Night.

I have totally missed the announcement on this! I get the newsletter but didn't see this mentioned. Where is the info on the release?
    Thanks!

cardsfan, I saw it on their twitter stream a few days ago. Heard about the preorder system through a friend that works at a local bottle shop here in Hickory. Absolutely cannot wait, hoping to hear more about it soon!

Once the whole pre-order thing is figured out.... If I preorder would any BA's in the Asheville area be willing to pick up for me and ship to Chapel Hill? I'll send a little thank you box and provide shipping cost. Send me a BM if possibly interested.

You in a hurry? I go down to Raleigh from Asheville 4 times a year. Next week, then again in December...

I should be able to do this without shipping. I go back and forth between Winston and Raleigh quite a bit. I want to see how or if they are doing pre-orders though.

I'm not in a hurry to get them. We'll see what the pre-order system looks like and then figure something out. From what was said on their facebook status they made it sound like you could place your pre-order and have someone else pick it up for you so we'll have to see if it stays that way.

I'll throw my name in the hat for that as well, once Brandon is taken care of. Assuming I can't make it out to the Ville at least. Also in Raleigh and sure would appreciate it!

I might just have to make the drive up the mountain. I too am in WS but head to Chapel Hill once a month.

Here is more info... 1st NC ABV cap beer available in bottles. Unique Beer style, a Brett Imperial Stout. Pre-Sale tickets ( I believe for the event on the 31st) are the only sure guarantee of getting bottles (6 limit). <--- Not 100% on this, will have to double check but the way it was explained to me the tickets are for the party which guarantee the 6 bottles. Wicked Weed Barrel Aged Fest Tap Takeover on Halloween at the Funkatorium on Coxe Avenue venue. 2500 bottles to be released.

    Fun stuff:

Aged for a freaking (my word) year.

Beer Party, the ticket thing is on the 31st of October, with the bottle release date of November 1st. I'm guessing the party will end after midnight, but that's just a guess. Currently the Beer is being aged in barrels (4 bourbon and 1 Black Angel). "Samples are pulled from each barrel periodically to monitor the development of each barrel. Currently, some barrles have more tartness than others, but burnt raisin, heavy vanilla, sherry are present in the aroma of each. There is an acidity that plays off of those rich esters nicely, producing a unique blend of flavors. The traditional caramel, licorice, raisin, and vanilla you'd expect from bourbon barrels is still present followed by the tart brett element that comes in, and rounds it out."

"Because the beer needed to reach such a high alcohol content it had to be brewed in two half sized batches because the amount of malt (sugar) needed displaced the regular amount of water to brew a normal 15 bbl batch. Various sugars (brown sugar, demerara sugar, and honey) were layered into the beer to achieve complexity in fermentation. When you think about really good spirits, they are innately dry (not sweet) and without residual sugar. Most Barrel Aged Stouts are cloyingly sweet, but because we used brett, Dark Arts is a dry beer that produces dry alcohol which leads to an off-dry (semi sweet) finish."

Interesting concept if this holds out. It gets more $$$ to the brewery by separating bottle sales and the party, and makes it less of a frustrating nightmare for all those that want bottles.

Now folks might have to purchase tickets to the party if they want to have the ability to buy bottles... hmm.
