Probably that along with the beer that goes into the barrels and just how much the beer picks up from the barrel. It can't be the age alone because that wouldn't explain the huge differences in alcohol presence in barrel-aged beers. I kind of wonder if the tequila barrels had been used to age something prior to Dark Arts or if the beer just didn't sit in them long since it seemed much more muted than the other tequila barrel-aged beers I've had (even in their own tequila ba coffee stout that they had on tap that night).

I didn't get a ton of tequila from the regular 2015 Dark Arts, but damn was it strong in the Espresso version. More tequila than the Tequila MC I had a few weeks ago.

Staggered to see so many people saying the tequila was muted. I got the nice big mouthfeel and richness of the beer (and espresso in that case), then that sharp teqila bite at the end. Killed the beer for me.

Initial reviews on the Espresso variant are through the roof. Will probably crack one of mine soon.
