As far as a counter event goes Dry River Brewing posted this on their FB:

Instead we’re working with our friends at Birds Fly South Ale Project to organize an alternative festival on the same day, at their beautiful facility in Greenville, South Carolina. Many of the breweries who pulled out of the Wicked Weed festival will be participating, including Beachwood, Blackberry Farm, Central State, Fonta Flora, Jolly Pumpkin, and the list is growing... More details soon!

Yes. I was told a range and the $70 million was the high end.

They said that they would be tapped at the brewery on the originally scheduled date of the festival (and they might through on a couple of other special brews).

I could be way off but that seems incredibly low to me. Unless they are in debt up to their eyes, which I doubt based off the bank roll they have as a backer and the amount of beer they sell.

750k ppl visited the brew pub last year. Average spend per person of let's guess 15$ Is 11M in revenue at that location alone.

BP sold for a billion doing 120k barrels. WW is doing 40k and the barrel aged stuff is worth more/better margins than anything BP makes.

^^^ Seems low to me too and I heard a rumor that had a different range.

If true then how do you explain Ballast Point at $1B....

I don't think Constellation's purchase of Ballast Point should be the only measuring stick. I always thought they incredibly over-valued in that purchase (and this isn't a question of the quality of Ballast Point's beer, I like their beer).

Well throw in Heineken buying Lagunitas for about the same $1B....

Just wondering if these two overpaid or AB got a deal - not sure

    I missed a zero.

The report is between $550 - $700 million from a very reliable source.

Pretty much how I feel. Don't blame them one bit, but that doesn't mean I'll continue buying their stuff.

The only thing they really did wrong IMO was to have the timing of the announcement coincide with the ticket sale to their festival. The timing may well have been out of their hands, but it definitely kept it in the news cycle for much longer than it otherwise would've been.

That's even more than I was thinking! No wonder they sold at those numbers. You think those are pretty firm?

Hoping my Edward Jones guy can find it in the acquisitions line on Inbev's quarterly reports.

That kind of money makes the former owners no better than a dirty high priced *****.

The Devils Backbone deal was not broken out on the annual statement. Not sure if it is comparable or not.

Yeah probably with other money you've saved, first time home buyer programs and FHA loans that require like 3-5% probably.

Yeah cause opening a business and starting a brand is all for shits and giggles and not being a ***** right?

    This is laughable.

While I may not like what they've done, some of the ardent haters of this need to step back and remove the veil and realize this is a business. It's there to support the staff and owners, grow and make money and provide a service.

They did all of that well enough to garner attention that someone wanted to value it more and buy it.

... or human beings with interests that extend beyond craft beer. Like family and financial security. And a life without needing to work. Perish the thought..
