"What started as a high-stakes game of corn hole, has led to the beer you see before you. Happy Blending, a barrel-aged sour ale with plums and nectarines is our collaboration with the Berkeley-based boys from The Rare Barrel. February 17th, we will be releasing this beer at 5pm at the Funkatorium. We absolutely love this beer and cannot wait for you to try it."

Well, at least this time, it isn't on a known holiday weekend. Though if it is amazing, I'm all for making it a holiday.

Hopefully this is one that sticks around for a couple hours/days as opposed to how Red Atrial went.

"Bean bag toss" is a better name than "corn hole".:astonished: The beer sound really good!

All the RB beers I've had have been overly acidic to the point of being a detraction. Hopefully the WW contribution will balance this one out a bit.

I have to agree. I was a tad disappointed in both the RB brews I've had. I like sour beers but damn, how bout a little balance.

They're a perfect balance of sour and really sour.

I kid. RB does definitely have more acidity than average (though I think Upland's Kiwi Lambic is the sourest beer I've ever drunk) and most of WW's stuff I would call fairly average on the sour acidity scale, so hopefully they do pick a happy medium.

That being said, I'll gladly drink any RB beer you guys don't want as you think its too acidic  While a little low on the pH scale, they do also taste great.

Yeah they have great flavors generally, just tend to get covered up a little bit by the pucker factor. They also make my teeth hurt.

Jay Goodwin has commented several times about how the RB culture has gotten too aggressive and they are currently working to reign it back in and lower their beers' acidity levels. On that note, I guess blending with WW makes perfect sense!

Funny that this thread has become about how RB beers are too acidic. Us NC drinkers have very discernable palates. Lol

I'd say it's partially because NC doesn't have a ton of sour production outside of Wicked Weed (which isn't particularly acidic on the sour scale) and partially because RB really is further along on that scale. It can be a bit bracing at times, even though I love some of their stuff (yum, Ensorcelled). Probably about the only thing in NC that acidic is Natty Greene's American Sour, and those aren't exactly easy to come by.

You or forgetting that there are quite a lot of places in NC doing sours. Zebulon, Bond Brothers, D9 all instantly come to mind.

Actually, if you want a surprise sour producer in NC, Hi Wire has hit a few home runs, under the radar, recently. Also, props for treznor for mentioning Natty Greene. They have produced some amazing Sour's that no one can get, heh. Couple years back their Sorghum Sour was amazing.

I did say we 'don't have a ton of sour production' not that we don't have any. Zebulon, Fonta Flora, Wooden Robot, Green Man, and Natty Greene are the main other ones I was thinking of. None of which really produce really acidic sours other than Natty Greene and Green Man (to some extent).

Zebulon I was definitely thinking of. I'm not counting farmhouse or saisons as those wouldn't be acidic anyway. D9 its funny that I forgot since I just had the new Systema Naturae last night. Though that's the only sour of there's that I'm a fan of. Bond Brothers I don't think I've ever really heard of (though apparently I had one of their beers at a bottle share in November).

Fonta Flora and Wooden Robot absolutely. Free Range I've had some of their stuff but didn't know they made sours, I'll have to look for them. Newgrass their most checked in to sour has 100 checkins on untappd, not sure I'd exactly say they produce a lot of sours.

Natty Greene produced some of the best sours in the state I'd say. I grab every bottle of American Sour I can find and anytime they're pouring sours at a festival I make sure to make their booth a priority. I tried that Sorghum sours at the Pints for Prostates event about 3 years ago and you're right it was crazy good. That was the first time I had Natty Greene sours and really only went over there to tick off everything at the festival (though later in the evening word had gotten out that Natty Greene had brought some great stuff), really glad I did.

Check Natty Greene's Twitter feed over the last few days. More sours are coming but no specific details yet.

I'd say this is a fairly big run of beer. Case limit.

Great to hear! It's tough keeping up with all the breweries and their preferred method of communication...

The name suggests it, but its not 100% clear from the description if this will be a blend of WW-produced and RB-produced beers, or a more conventional collab (e.g. a WW beer with the RB name attached to it). I guess doing a blend makes sense and is probably the most interesting option, but that's a long way to ship a large volume of unpackaged beer.

    I'd venture a guess at 20-22$
