I don't understand what people have against the new release format. The pre sale was a pain because you had to have a trigger finger most of the time to even get in. Plus you HAD to buy 6 or 12 even though some people wanted less. Also with the pre sale, this took over half of the overall inventory down, which meant there was far less available on that Saturday and it would most likely sell out that day. I fully understand that people have to work Fridays and might not be able to get down that day, but guess what? EVERY release since Dark Arts has lasted days after, up to a week even. As long as you came sometime during that weekend, you were guaranteed to get bottles. Angel of Darkness, Happy Blending, and Red Angel were/are available days after the Friday release. They have a new sour facility, meaning the production of all of these beers has vastly increased. If you come that weekend, you won't miss out, therefore more fair to everyone.

I assumed this as well but was told by the bearded fellow with all the tats that the batches are the same size as the 2016 batches (they just got in the new facility, you wont see the uptick from all that new space until the 2018 batches). He told me they just sell less with this release format. They wanted a release format that was more friendly to the locals is why they switched it up.

My point is the beers stick around more thus making them more accessible to everyone. No idea why people are complaining

Who is complaining about the release method?

No tickets means they obviously have plenty around. And it shows. Still available today following the release.

No percentage to a ticket agency, no extra staffing over the weekend, and locals are happy.

I have zero problem with the format. It's Red Angel for goodness sake, its been around for a while and it's not so special or limited to deserve a ticketed release anymore.

My money is honestly on this hitting normal distro next year.

Meh, it's still special enough that had there been a BPT release it would have sold out in less than a couple of minutes.

The funkatorium was at fire code capacity within 30 minutes of opening Friday night and stayed that way for hours (maybe longer as I left after a few hours).

    But yeah, nothing special.

I showed up around 7:30-8pm or so after stopping by App Vintner to pick up some App Walker. Fairly certain it wasn't near the fire code capacity any more since I didn't see anyone counting people going in and out. Did they run the beginning of the release out of the outside release area? By the time I got there it was only inside, though there wasn't a line or anything so it didn't cause any issues.

Yes, release started outside by the dock door... I showed up around 5:50, was in line for ~40 minutes. Line was pretty much gone by 6:45 or 7. That was similar to Happy Blending release (line was gone a bit earlier for HB though, around 6 or 6:30).

I left close to seven and it was still one person-one person out. Must have started to clear out around then.

Yeah it was run just like AoD release.

Had a bottle last night. Out of the fridge, it was an one note sour with a punch of tart fruit and nothing else. As it warmed up, this beer truly become great and I really enjoyed it.

Note to self to let my sours warm a bit if coming from main fridge

I do this with all sours. I like them around 55-60 degrees.

How long did bottles last this time? I was not able to go over for this release but I did make the drive from Raleigh to all the angel releases last year and I'm curious about how the new process (no presale) in addition to what appears to be an increase in production has affected availability. I did presale for all but AoD when no presale was available. I was a little worried about not being able to get bottles of AoD on that Saturday but there was no problem.

So happy I got to try this! There two days ago and had it in draft and also picked up 6 bottles amongst others. Killer sour. Still tons left when I got mine, should last at least through the weekend I would assume.

Wouldn't surprise me, if at some point in the future you see some sort of limited distro. I have no inside knowledge on this, total speculation, but there is a bit left over for sure.
