When they first opened just over a year ago, I wasn't very impressed with the Black Angel. I know they were brewing on Craggies system before they opened and had a little time to age thier beers. Now that it's been over a year, thier sours are beginning to get some age on them and really starting to shine. I've been lucky to visit Asheville a few times in the last month and have fallen in love with the Genesis Grand Cru and Oblivion. I am truly excited to see what The Funkatorium has in store in the next few years. I've always said the east coast and especially North Carolina needs to have a Cascade/Bruery/Russian River equivalent. There is no doubt in my mind that Wicked Weed is that answer.
I love their sours, Black Angel in particular. Were they really brewing on Craggie's equipment? I thought Hi-Wire kept all of that.
I completely agree. Wicked Weed is doing some great stuff in the Funkatorium. Was there in the last couple weeks and had Serentity, Oblivion and a couple others. UNBELIEVABLE. I'm new to this game and have never had any of the breweries you referenced but, if they're doing stuff as good or better than WW, I can't wait to try it. Also had a beer called Devilwood that I would put against any beer I've had in a long time. It was as barrel aged Belgian IPA if recall correctly.
<--- currently dreaming of more genesis GC. Alas, no growler fills allowed so I'll have to wait to have it again until my next Asheville trip! Sweet baby Jesus I would love to rep their beers in SC.
