(Portland, OR) – Widmer Brothers Brewing and Boneyard Beer today announced the collaborative release of Blacklight IPA, a bold, hop-forward session style black ale.

Blacklight IPA is the first of six Widmer Brothers limited release collaboration beers with Oregon breweries to be released this year as part of a series that commemorates Widmer Brothers’ 30 years of brewing beer. The collaboration series is a celebration of the brewery’s 30th anniversary, the Oregon brewing community and the unique camaraderie between craft brewers.

Blacklight IPA is a hop-forward, sessionable 4.2 percent ABV black ale with a heavy dose of five different hop varieties and stained black with cold-steeped dark malts. The beer focuses on big hop flavor and aroma, without the harsh bitterness and heavy roast that the beer’s dark color suggests.

Blacklight IPA will be available in the coming weeks in 22-ounce bottles and on draught, with limited distribution in select markets, including Portland, Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego, Minneapolis, New York City, Boston, and Philadelphia.

This was previously posted in Beer Releases and moved to the Northwest forum when it appeared this release would be more limited - but, it looks like more info has been added to the press release announcing various US cities that will receive limited shipments.

Thanks for the update, @DaltonC !

Sessionable but still sold in 22 oz bottles? It'd better be like $4.99 to convince me to buy one.

From what I heard in a meeting with some CBA people, they're (widmer)releasing 30 beers for their 30 anniversary, some of them previous widmer brews, some new collabs. Mostly available in Portland, but some will trickle their way to so cal. Not sure where else as we don't distribute outside of so cal. Hope that's some help

This beer is way too expensive for what you're getting, and that's coming from a huge Boneyard fan.

Looks like it got down to Salinas now, at least there's some in California: that's a good sign!! I tweeted them and they asked me where in LA it should go. I gave them a list of the 7 or 8 best bars that would kill the keg in a second. Really hoping we can get some draft down here, and I will drive to San Diego just to have some Boneyard.

All 30 beers from the 30 for 30 series are things that Widmer has brewed in the past. This collab and the 4 or 5 others coming after it are part of a different series. Here's the release schedule:

I saw some at Whole Foods yesterday. I think it was $7.99 for a bomber. Not a big fan of black IPAs anyway. It will have to get to $5 or less to get my dollars. And I do like Boneyard quite a bit.
