https://twitter.com/casanovaliquor/status/539487226875629568 Thought this looked interesting. I'm not sure if this is a new event or existing for Casanova but they know how to put on a good event!
"First Annual Wild/Sour Beer Cave Fest tickets are now available. Sat Feb 7th, 1-4, $50, 50+ beers. Call 715-386-2545 for tickets." I'm definitely going to be watching for more details, sour beer fest sounds awesome!
I'll be curious to see what kind of beers they have for this. WI/MN distro has become pretty shite in terms of shelf sours.
They have the ability to bring in all kinds of Belgian gueuzes and lambics. A lot of those beers are technically distributed here (3F, Cantillon, etc) but never make it to our shelves because they are swallowed up by big cities on the coasts. I wouldn't at all be surprised to see Casanova stockpile a few bottles of each to put out on this day. Plus you've got the O'so/FF sours, New Glarus sours, keg availability on decent sours from New Belgium, etc. I'd like to see some sort of list before forking over $50, though.
It is worth nothing- five years ago one of my favorite beer spots in SD was reporting that their annual "Sour Beer Night" was their highest grossing day of the year. So Sour Power is a real thing, and the craze is just starting to hit the Midwest. I predict that within five years, most major breweries will put out sours of some sort and at least a half-dozen new sour-centric breweries will open in the Midwest.
No Dark Beer Fest this year I guess? It was on January 18th of 2014 so I assume this has taken its place?
Shelton Brothers did not pull out of Wisconsin, their stuff is still available for sale, doesn't mean it is any easier to get than it was when it was in MN, but it is available....
They will be alternating between Sour and Dark year to year in able to have lots of cool stuff available to pour.
I've had their Peach Berliner Weisse and The Last Word and while neither get super high ratings around here, I liked them both quite a lot (the peach slightly more).
