Will my hops ever sink?

I have a ne ipa fermenting, I dropped the hops in on day 3 as I noticed that it had slowed a bit and thought it would nearly stop, the krausen was nearly gone also. But the ferment stayed steady till now and there is 6.5oz of hops that is all suspended as a foam on top. I didn't take any gravity simply because if I did every day I would be wasting a bunch of beer. I've read people gently swirling the carboy but I'm not sure if that's a good idea. Would be using a spoon to push them under be an acceptable practice or should I just wait it out?. Would be waiting longer to drop hops be a fix?

    Thanks guys

As long as they've broken up, you'll be just fine.

They will sink if you cold crash before kegging/bottling.

How many days has it been since you dropped the hops in?

3 days. It is mosaic hops. I've never used mosaic before or this high of a quantity.

You also have some options for cold crashing this time of year in Minnesota. Put the carboy in the garage overnight before you keg or bottle, leave it outside for a few hours, refrigeration, or moving it to a colder part of the basement. From time to time I've had the same problem you have, and it's turned out fine.

Better make sure it doesn't freeze overnight though lol. Ipa slushy isn't good.

Only 3 days? Be patient and give it at least a week or so to drop.

Unless he wants to rack to a keg. I personally do after 4 days of dry hopping to avoid the grass flavors

I have dry hopped for up to 14 days (many, many times) and I have never perceived "grass flavors" in any of those beers. Take that FWIW.

    Cheers!

    Quick question... unrelated to OP
Do you use that spigot on the bottom even when it is within the trub line? When you transfer to a keg/bucket, how do you discard the trub/hop debris that comes out first?

I’ve been using an auto siphon for NEIPAs, but I’d prefer to use a spigot.

    Thanks

Only reason I have spigot is to test gravity readings during fermentation so I don't have to open fermenter and stick stuff in there. I do a closed transfer forced with co2 to my keg. Here is a video to show you how I do my transfer

Thx for the video. Do you get trub in your gravity samples?
I’m still using a white plastic bucket to ferment because that’s what fits in my mini fridge for temp control.

Yeah for the first couple days it's not so much, but obviously the more that settles the more I will get. It doesn't effect the readings if I am correct. You can also force transfer from the bucket. Go to the local lhbs and buy another bucket lid and and extra gromet that is used in the hole for the air lock. Drill a hole and put the gromet in it, now you can stick co2 in one hole and racking cane in the other
