Seriously, enough! What’s the matter with you? Schwarzbiers, Helles, Rauchbiers, Pilsners, Zwickelbiers, Dortmund Exports, and now Czech Dark Lagers? Who even drinks that?

(I mean, besides me, of course. And you, because well, you’re not an idiot. And sure, all them like-minded Lager people we know who have their shit together, too. But fo' reals, you need to be chill. If you keep hyping up Lagers like this, you’re going to make them a thing. And you know when something becomes a thing, there’ll be that day when people are over that thing and breweries stop making that thing because people have moved on to some other thing. I happen to like Lager and would like it to stick around (Okay, obviously Lager’s going to stick around, but don’t be surprised when a bunch of places stop making as many of them or as often when the next White IPA trend comes along).

So please, just go quietly about it and don’t make a scene. Let others drink their crazy hazies, pastry stouts, and sour Idontknowwhatyouweregoingforheres while we lowkey laughingly lovingly Lager all damn day. Just be cool and relax that fanboy freakout, will you, please? Can you do that for me? I swear if you ruin this for me, I will never forgive you.

I think we're already in up to our waists -- at least around here where we're seeing so many smaller breweries making lagers. Some outstanding, others just so-so -- but many on the shelves.

Just gonna have to keep feeding the monster.

Besides, when BA can influence a brewery like Sierra Nevada to bring back two formerly retired lagers, we must have a *little* influence.

I love Lagers. I currently have 4 different local Lagers in the fridge and plan to head out in about an hour to a taproom that has 3 Lagers on tap. I think I will get a flight of them. Cheers Lager Lovers.

Yes, we need to be careful . With some luck lagers will continue to be the golden standard.

I love lagers, but I still feel like most of the ones at your typical neighborhood brewery aren't that great. I'd rather have one of those trendier beers from most places. There are obviously exceptions, but I think there's a pretty big gap between great lagers and everyone else.

The current fetishization that will spawn marketing like double-double-decocted will eventually go away... and the production of such beers that could be marketed as double-double-decocted will decline. Side-pour faucets across the US will eventually run dry and be tossed away... until they become fashionable again. Outside of macro, lager will eventually be looked down upon as an old man's drink by the cutting edge... as sexy as a hazy IPA in a bottle... just as it was a short time ago. Have I rained on any parades or have I inspired some hope?

I do think they are currently underrepresented. But I also share your concern that with increase popularity could oversaturate the market for some styles.

However, in my possibly naïve opinion, I think that it takes maturity to appreciate a lager and they will not take off in the way some other beer trends have with the trend. Plus, I think the "lager" style is too broad to take on a trend. The trend doesn't chase lagers, but rather a specific style. Maybe one of the specific styles burns out, but I think overall the lagers will prevail. I share your concern, but also as summer approaches I am looking forward to some great pilsners.

Yup, we've been on this for a while. Maybe it's time to proceed with the part with the secret handshakes.:sunglasses:

Keep the lagers coming! I personally love the recent trend of breweries trying their hands at classic German and Czech recipes. My only gripe is $16/4 packs of said lagers from local breweries but there are better deals out there and, of course, the real deal stuff from Germany/Czech Republic/Poland.
I can't wait for warmer weather and pilsener time that comes along with it.

I'm still homebrewing the ones I can't find around here, Rauchbier, Czeck Dark, Doppelbock, Helles, and so on.

Most breweries have brew houses with a mash-lautertun and a boil kettle with no provisions to decoct in the kettle. That can be done if there is a slurry pump and storing arms with chains that drag along the bottom to prevent scorching.

Another issue is lack of tank space for proper Lagering. Horizontal Lagering tanks are not common either.

    But... but... baltic porters!

And... I just picked up some von Trapp maple rauch today... 1st von Trapp that appeared interesting to me. It'll be like the Rogue pink bottle cut way back.

    I've always heard regarding lagers,

Easy to make, difficult to master.

I'm certainly thankful for mastered and on-the-path-to-mastered lagers

I was playing the beer March madness and accidentally drank some lagers. Not sure they'll last. The one I had has been brewed since 1907. Probably run it's course. Maybe if they add fruit to it.

Jeff, is Czeck Dark a new type of lager beer!?!:flushed:

    Cheers!

P.S. I will be 'road testing' my latest batch of Czech Dark Lager tomorrow evening. It should be done carbonating (hopefully). :+1:
