Doubt I'll try it but I know for certain that I won't buy it, there isn't a beer out there that I'd be willing to pay that much for.

    Two points are salient here:

    1) $35 is 75% more than $20, and those special release beers often involve ingredients or processes that justify the price. For instance, Huna and Kane ANTEADs involved a year of barrel aging that drives up costs, since storing lots of barrels in a warehouse for a year is not cheap.

    2) Guinness the 1759 is not being released in a special release scenario, like Huna, where people are going to have to line up for it. This is much more like Parabola, which I found on six different occasions for between $13 an $20.

On the fence with this one, you guys that review it first here on BA promise you will use the best of your tastebuds on this one? That $35 is over the purchase line for me unless I know for sure I would like it, sure, I have paid that much or more even with shipping/trades but I knew what I was getting besides a pretty box.

I still have a bottle of this from the 2006 release. It's actually not half bad coming from AB.

I remember trying the 1st Brewmaster's Reserve at GABF back in the day. Since their booth was the first one I saw, I even got to try it with a palate that wasn't totally shot, too. While nothing amazing, it wasn't bad. I didn't have a great reference point for it back then, but it was at least fairly close to a maibock with less hop character.

I'd like to try it, but not if it's priced at $35. If I see it for about $25 I might consider it. Even that's high, but at least slightly more reasonable.

I would try it, but I would not buy it. I've been on a smoked kick, and a 9% peat smoked ale is something I would try. It's not like I'm immune to a good gift set, but $35 for a velvet lined bomber box is ridiculous.

I wouldn't be so certain that the peated malt will be the dominant flavor. The flavor description in the label picture doesn't even mention smokiness as a highlight. Plus, they probably made a beer that appeals to the widest consumer base possible, so I don't think they'd have any strong bold flavors of any type.

I will buy it @ 8.99 when they figure out it's not selling and the stores have a fire-sale

Still, it's enough to pique my curiosity, but not enough to shell out that much money.

At half the price I'd probably try it (and likely be disappointed)...although that would still put it above the price point of many other beers...would likely be better off just buying some FES, at least then I know I won't be disappointed.

We can only hope this happens and doesn't set a bad precedent.

Well, my brother got me a bottle of the stuff for my Birthday. Looks like I'll be one of the first to try it.

Look, I've spent $30+ on some of the Bruery's bourbon barrel series, but for some reason, I could care less about this beer.

Then, this thread makes me want to try it...
It' just sitting there on the shelf at my store, y'know?

    Ugh...

Yes, and it only comes to $35 because of the adjustment for 200+ years of inflation.

Take into consideration they are not going after people who frequent BA or anyone else with knowledge of craft beer , they are seeking out the people with disposable income who drink Blue Moon and Shock Top and tell their buddies they only drink good beer
