Target market for this one is the person looking for a beer gift that does not really know anything about craft beer. Walks into liquor store, recognizes Guinness name, sees $35 price tag and fancy packaging, figures it must be very special, buys bottle for a price that is very reasonable for a gift, gives to friend who then wishes the money had been spent on something that does not advertise butterscotch as a flavor.

I'd be more interested if Guinness made an Imperial version of their Draught or Foreign Export.

You theoretically could cellar this for 21 years. Would I recommend it? Hell no. I wouldnt recommend cellaring anything for 21 years. Itll be soy sauce by the end.

Do whatever you want. But I wouldn't. And I definitely wouldn't cellar this for 21 years... it's an Amber Ale and nothing in the description even suggests that this beer is meant to be aged.

Nope, won't be having it, or any of these other new beers from them.

The question of what beers would be good to cellar for 18 or 21 years is a common topic in the Cellaring forum. Indeed, here is a recent discussion on it: http://www.beeradvocate.com/communi...nything-hold-up-for-his-21st-birthday.209263/. If you want an idea of general recommendations, you should head over there.

If you are specifically looking to cellar a Guinness beer long term, I would suggest the Special Export Stout. I've had that at age 16 and it held up okay. It's possible the additional 5 years would kill it, but I'd be willing to risk it.

From my local supermarket I can buy exactly 17 bottles of Guinness Foreign extra stout for £22 ($35). In fact I think I might do exactly that to stock up for Christmas.

I would pay $5 for it - that seems like a deal just to have that sweet bottle.

    LOL.
We're already seeing overpriced (and overhyped) beers all over the place. Mostly coming from the small brewers that the big ones have been trying to muscle in on. LOL.

What I mean was EVEN MORE overpriced, as in $30-35 as opposed to $15-20. I don't want things to move even more in the wrong direction

I'd be more than happy to try it. But at $30, there is no way I'm going to buy it.

No thanks, Guinness isn't tricking me on this. Why would you pay that much for an amber ale?!?! You can keep your "luxury" beer. If you buy this you are telling breweries it is alright to charge you out the butt for beer as long as it is called "luxury" beer.
