I'll try any beer. Might not want to pay for it though.

Here's a better question: what would you expect for a 750ml@ $34.99? I work at a party store, and I'll fork over some serious dough for a beer that will mature in the bottle at a high ABV. So, for the price their asking, I'll accept that it *could* reflect the cost to pay for ingredients, aging, and marketing, but I also expect it to be unique and of very high potential. I would buy 750ml of 15%+ ABV intended to be cellared a minimum of 5 years for about $35/bottle. Obviously, this beer isn't that sort of thing. I have 6 bottles at the store. I will be hard pressed to sell it. This will likely be a harder sell than the pints of Detroit Vodka we have at $17/per.

Philly's beer reporter - Don "Joe Sixpack" Russell has a write up for his weekly column:
    http://www.joesixpack.net/2014/11/20/guinness-goes-luxe/

    The Review:
"Rather than an amber, I’d describe it more accurately as a brown ale, one with a bit of smoky peat in the nose and a medium body with none of the roasted bitterness of Guinness’ beloved stout. Its caramel flavor grows more pronounced and complex as the glass warms, but it’s never sweet; it finishes dry with more of that peaty smoke. Even at 9 percent alcohol, it’s smooth and quaffable."

    The Conclusion:
"As good as it is, The 1759 is not so precious that it needs to be corked. It ought to be sold in 12-ounce bottles for no more than $10 each."

I work at a big craft beer store and no one has been buying it besides older people and whisky drinkers. We have probably sold 5 cases in the past 3 weeks. I think it will attract whisky drinkers because of the smokey character the beer has. Ive yet to try it and do believe the price makes it more novelty than anything. Nice bottle, nice packaging, but not sure if the fluid inside is worth $34.99. If someone buys me one id drink it though

Sure I would try it. Would I pay for it? Absolutely not.

At $35 there are a million other beers I'd rather try than something from a powerhouse like Guinness.

When I first read this thread, I made sure to tell the owner not to order this. Luckily our local distributor is so horrible, I don't think we could even get it anyway. Our area doesn't even have Guinness Blonde yet.

You and I are in the same boat. I will (mayhap) try it, but only because my job affords certain things to its employees to improve staff knowledge. Would I, as a consumer, buy an Amber, without any "beer geek" info, or other serious hooks, aside from it being from Guinness? no. Why? It's too gosh darn expensive, and there are so many other options that give me a thrill to look more than 5 seconds at it.

Sad party, Guinness, like no other brewery in the world has the capacity and history to brew some great, great stuff. Export Stout is pretty awesome, but the could be doing small batches all the time.

I love smoked beers and would really like to try it, but at that price -- no way.

I bought a bottle this weekend out of curiousity, how I didn't spend 35 dollars for it. I got it at Costco for 22. Still a bit pricey, but it was the only bomber there I hadn't tried. I'll report back after I drink it.

What makes a 9% amber ale premium or special?

I hope I'm wrong, but I have a feeling this is going to be like ABInBev's 'specialty' beers they did a couple years ago that were supposed to use higher quality ingredients and new recipes, and 95% of them were adjunct lagers.

I won't be trying it. Too expensive for a macro beer. Or even most craft beers.

Considering Black Tuesday is only $30, yeah, overpriced. I could understand $15, $35 is silly.

I saw this the other day, looks like 0 bottles had been sold. Maybe it will eventually go on sale.

I would drink it, if some gave it to me. But there is no chance I am going to shell out the cash for it.

I tried it recently. It's pretty good stuff, but not worth the price whatsoever.

Might not buy it but I'll try anything. Even tried the maple-bacon-donut thing from Rogue in the PeptoBismol bottle.

Saw it for 25 at costco and didn't even consider it. That said, if a family member gave it to me for Christmas, I would be thrilled to receive it just for the novelty and because I am always happy when someone buys me beer.
