    I've stated this before, but I've become a bit overwhelmed with BB aging. I've really been enjoying wine barrel aged stuff recently.

    If the hops from the base beer are still somewhat prominent I prefer bourbon.

    A stout with a more neutral yeast flavor I prefer bourbon.
    A stout with fruitier, usually Belgian influenced, yeast flavor I prefer wine.

    Most German styles I tend to prefer bourbon.
    Belgian Sours and Saisons I go with wine.

    Beer with coffee, chocolate or vanilla it is bourbon.

    I could go on. I like what each barrel offers, in general I have no preference for one over another. It is largely dependent on style and sometimes the specific beer.

    Wine barrel aging for sure. Mixing a bit of each is even better, a la The Abyss

    I prefer bourbon, but admittedly I favor stouts and porters. Wine probably is a better for fruity or Belgian styles, but those aren't nearly as appealing to me personally. Bourbon>Wine

    I prefer wine for saisons but bourbon for everything else

    I'm a little surprised that so-called beer advocates see fit to group so many different flavor possibilities under the category "wine" as if the type of wine is meaningless.

    I am sure is the question was worded differently or different questions were asked many "so-called beer advocates" in this thread would specific examples in mind.

    I dont think the question needs to be worded differently.
    He says "In general"
    true beer snobs make things so complicated. Its just beer - not a holy relic.

    In general I prefer bourbon - are there exceptions - YES.

    Judging by the poll, I'm guessing the majority agree.

    I think you probably should have read what I was replying to before you posted this response. This is not relevant to the exchange that was taking place.

    I was responding to someone who disliked the the generic term of wine and lack of specificity. I was simply stating that if we were having a different conversation (different wording or question) you would see more responses with specific wines.

    Just goes to show that if you engage to score points rather to learn about beer and the preferences of others, you will sometimes lose points, but when learning you always come out ahead even without points.
