I want to support these guys. I hope they get it together with the canning. They might want to get a Quality Control program in place. This first canning of P-51 really should not have been sold to the public.
Wingman ipa? two words: Banana Bread you know i'm right! I'll be watching wingman from a distance... the porter I had was also flat... but so was the ipa. I'll keep my WA brewery bitching out of this thread...
Oh come on Dan. Let it fly. I want to support but holy heck. I have been underwhelmed by local Puyallup/Tacoma area stuff beyond Wingman. DUO is the best "new" brewery in the area.
Actually, I really like their IPA. Very hoppy with Belgian yeast character, a good bitter Belgian IPA. That being said...how could they possibly release this first canning? Zero (and I do mean Zero) carbonation on the P-51. Even the most hardcore will still drain pour this. Undrinkable. How do you let something like that out? They might have released this without ever opening a can themselves? Or worse…know it was a drain pour and sold it anyway? I hope they learn from this or else they might not be around for long.
I saw some at the Tacoma Food Co-op( P-51 and Ace). I squeezed the cans and yup, not good. Maybe, they could double as a stress ball? I hope they get this fixed too. I want them to do well.
I picked up a can of P-51 yesterday and there is no doubt that something is wrong with their canning process. They're using Northwest Canning, a mobile canning firm that Emerald City, Harmon, and Amnesia also use. I emailed Ken at the brewery to let him know and he said he'd let the canning firm know about the quality issue and he offered me a free beer at the taproom. I guess that's really all they can do. Hopefully the other Northwest Canning clients don't have these issues too.
Just cracked the Ace IPA and it had a good amount of carb, though it dissipates quickly. Not bad, but probably not something I will come back to.
