I have 7 from different years, all pre 2000 and none are winking. Do you know what year it started. I’m probably going to become obsessed now with finding one

For sake of discussion, let's say that the labels come in packs of 1,000. The racks on the labeller that hold them would be able to hold more than 1,000 (say 1,200ish) so that they wouldn't have to stop the line to add more to the machine. The operator would just wait until there was enough room to add the new stack. Sure, they would just keep a pile of the winkers nearby, and the operator would add that one in, but still, seems like an extra layer of work, unless the machine runs relatively slowly. The case packers on the Bud Light lines kick out about a case a second, and St. Bernardus ain't doing that volume.

They've definitely either got some kind of complicated system they've devised or their adding a weird amount of extra work/cutting a decent amount of efficiency to their packaging line to pull this off.

I'm an Occams Razor guy: Their line probably just runs slow enough that it's not an issue. If it was an issue, they wouldn't do it.

Maybe. I've never worked a packaging line or labeler so I've got no context. I assume a professional grade one would move pretty fast

Yeah, I don't know how one would do that. They certainly aren't filling two pallets in a couple of hours at that rate.

    At the Inbev level, sure:

I'd suspect St. Benardus is faster than this though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W7Wc4nvBQhs

The canning line I used to work would put out about 2 cases a minute, a pallet of 100 cases about every 50 minutes. Only a 4 head filler. Wild Goose is the brand name.

I used the same one, although the number of issues with the system that arise during a canning run normally adds some significant time :stuck_out_tongue:. Bottles generally go slower in my experience. Changing out labels takes a good chunk of time though, but I agree just hand labeling a bottle after every roll of bottle labels would make sense.

I loved Snow Goose many years ago. First time I had it was at the old Irish Pub.

Not seen that beer or anything from that brewery in well over 20 years if not longer.

Edit…..as I read this again I think you meant the bottling line is called wild goose, yes?

    Enjoy

For folks interested in the genesis of the winking monk and the logistics of the one in a thousand labeling this is discussed in the below video. I would encourage you watch the entire video but if you are solely interested in the winking monk aspect you can go to the 20:00 mark.

    Cheers!
