I going to be in Winnipeg July of 2022. First, can I get recommendations to buy regional/local cans in quantity. I think I will spend most of my time between downtown and the airport, but I can make a stop on the north side of town. Second, can I get recommendations for places I can eat and drink local/regional beer? Also, are there options with a full bar, too? And, outdoor seating?
Not from Winnipeg, so I won't be too helpful here. Three breweries to check out: Half Pints, Kilter and Torque.
The MLCC has a bit of a monopoly on distribution for pickup, you will often find the same beers at the same stores all the time. Visiting the breweries are always an option too. It's easy to get around and things aren't too far or too hard to get to either for purchases. I would tell you go, but COVID restrictions like most places have really put a kibosh on going out particularly bars. Breweries I think worth visiting: Barn Hammer Torque Half Pints Those are all kind of close to each other for driving distance for to go purchases with Half Pints closest to the airport.
Please keep in mind, when I mention close to the airport, I mean by car, nothing is in walking distance from the airport unless you really got some time to kill walking through some big empty sidewalks and through industrial parks/warehouses through half of it.
Kilter, Kilter, Kilter, and if for some crazy reason you decide to spend a 4th day in Winnipeg, Kilter. (I'm from there I can poke fun, a weekend is enough lol) Also hit up Quality Inn Liquor Store, it's beside the hotel on Pembina.
I would you going to Little Brown Jug is a must. Their 1919 beer is hands down my favorite beer. I’ve made several trips to Winnipeg mostly for this beer and some others they make as well as a nice spa there. Unfortunately with requirement due to COVID for entering Canada still in effect I haven’t been able to make the trip for 3 years now and they don’t ship to the U.S. If you’re passing through North Dakota on your way back and able to help reunite me with this beer I would be extremely grateful.
Covid restrictions have dropped a bit. Are there any updates for my trip to Winnipeg? Cans are the only thing I can take on my fishing trip. Are cans clearly marked with expiration dates? So far, I haven’t heard of a restaurant with a good beer selection and a full bar? Plus, we’ll have a car to get around and we are staying at an airport hotel.
I am actually doing the same thing for the Labor Day long weekend to see Forge play Valour. I was going to make a thread here, and also ask if anyone from the area wanted some Ontario/Quebec brew to have a little tour and swap. That said, was going to wait closer to the date before I made a thread on it.
I recall the first time I visited the Peg there was a bar called "The Common" in the Forks Market that wasn't bad. I didn't really have a lot of time though to beer tour the city. Had a Half-Pints at the Airport and it was good, and I think they have a few appearances in the Canadian Top 100 so I'd presume they would be the must stop brewery.
This may not be the place to ask this, but I am heading from Hamilton on Labour Day weekend and wanted to know if anyone wanted to potentially meet up one day before the Monday and have a six pack swap or something.
Bump. For 2023 are there any big updates? I've seen Torque, Kilter, Nonsuch recommended here and in other places. Planning to go to Trans Canada as their pizza menu looks great. Good Neighbour and Low Life also sounded good as well. I will have 4 days in the area in August/September. We're driving up from Wisconsin in the USA. Would gladly take bar, food, and other things to do recommendations as well. Thanks all.
Would def check out Low Life for the beers and wine and Next Friend Cider now too, seems like a one stop shop! First on my list to visit when going back.
Just open Devil May Care brewing to myself. Not sure if they are new or I just missed them previous times. Solid. My personal number 2 straight after Kilter.
