Gotta beg to disagree...but to each their own. Take for example Moon Man from New Glarus. Not barrel-aged, far from a high alcohol hop bomb and certainly not a sour. Holding a 4.12 rating. I can find hundreds of other local examples with solid ratings that don't fit any of your criteria. Not saying the ratings are the end-all be-all, but they're a good place to start when researching beers.
You keep drinking WB...I'll choose from the many hundreds of other breweries that brew beer more to my liking. Cheers!

Next time you're up in Madison, check them out. I think they even teamed up with WBC for a beer earlier this year.

I tried the saison out of the fermentor a few months ago and it was wonderful.

Kirby himself said he wasn't happy with the amber. I think there's some truth in the whole jumping into large distribution. I think the beers that are offered will improve over time. When I was up there Kirby mentioned that they had just installed a nice pilot brewing system and he seemed excited for it.

For me, I'll keep supporting WBC because my father and Kirby went to high school together and Kirby's gone out of his way to treat us like family at both capitol and WBC. The beers, in my opinion, have all been good. Some have been great... I loved porter joe. I would take lakefront's IPA over WBC's, but they'll probably both be in my fridge at any given time.

Of course some of the better ones will sneak through, but it's not in that coveted Top 250, is it?

Therein is the bottom line, no? I enjoy different beers than most of the BA crowd, but I always have to shake my head when it makes me the outcast.

I'll have to -- and not just because they're draft-only, but because it's always good to try new breweries.

But it is different. They're brewing some different beers that were never brewed at Capital (by Kirby). And the comparison to Andretti is far from a put-down. "No matter what car you put him in, he'll drive it just like he always has." And he's always driven (brewed) very well.

Considering I really enjoy Saisons in the summer I will continue to enjoy one of the very few that is bottled in WI. Yes, I had written off WBC in the beginning as a brewery that would not brew anything I would buy. I guess I was wrong.

Karben4 is about 5 miles from my house and I really like what they are doing. With that said their initial beers in the first year did not excite me, but then along came Fantasy Factory and it started to become very promising. It wasn't until a year later I got to try the next batch of Silk Scorpion.

I never implied it was. I'm saying it's predictable.

If I wanted to put him down, I'd have tried to compare him to Michael Andretti

For some reason I thought FF was one of their first releases- I was living in Cali when they opened, so I didn't get in there until they were there 6 months or so.

Yeah- Hinterlands Saison is palatable, but stops short of being truly good. It's tough to beat Saison DuPont, which is available pretty much everywhere. It makes sense that it isn't a style inherent to Wisconsin- we don't have a ton of French or Belgian heritage. It's much more odd that we don't have a consistently good Helles. I'll bet we did before Prohibition.

Yeah, never had a problem getting it fresh in SD...

    NG's Thumbprint Saison was nice.

Yes, and I want to try the Imperial Saison that Dan once made.

Couldn't help myself and bought a single of Zenith in a mixed sixer at Woodmans tonight. While not awe-inspiring, it's probably the best I've had out of all of their beers. Crisp, tart and very drinkable. Would probably buy that one again sometime....

I've only tried their IPA and I wasn't too impressed. I've been tempted to but a sixer of the brown porter but have yet to pull the trigger. Do they do a mixed 12 pack? Id be interested to try a variety of their stuff without buying 4+ six packs.

I had #006 Porter Joe last night at Greene's Pour House and absolutely loved it.

I'm pretty sure I did see mixed 12-packs of their beers at the store.

If you live near a Roundys brand store (Copps, PickNSave, ect) they should have them all in the singles section to build a 6 pack. They do in every store around Madison.

Not sure why they did not bottle it. I'd really like to try it.
