Figured this would be the best place to ask - I have a relative coming into Michigan from Wisconsin later this week and I wanted to try and convince him to stop at a store before his drive over and pick me up some goodies. I was hoping someone could tell me what New Glarus or Central Waters beers might be sitting on shelves right now. I wanted to throw out a few names for him to look at but I'm not really sure whats more on the widely available side right now. He lives out of the Appleton/Racine area. Thanks.
New Glarus Dancing Man Wheat is out right now and highly regarded. You can also probably get their IIPA easily as well.
All of Central Waters' barrel aged stuff is gone (I'm sure somewhere in the state, their are a few four packs sitting on shelves, but for all intensive purposes, they're gone from virtually every store). So for Central Waters, that leaves: Mudpuppy Porter Shine On Satine Soltice Glacial Trail Happy Heron Pale Ale Ouisconsing Red Illumination DIPA (this is still at most places, but be aware that they will be at least 3-4 months old, if you care about freshness) Belgian Style Blonde Ale As far as NG is concerned, he should be able to find: Raspberry Tart Belgian Red Dancing Man Wheat IIPA Black Top Spotted Cow Moon Man Fat Squirell Moon Man Two Women Totally Naked He may also be able to find Road Slush, Hop Hearty and Cherry Stout as well depending on the store (they have all of these at one of my locals in Madison). That should just about cover it.
Tell him to stop at the Kenosha Woodmans and pick up Dancing Man Wheat, Black Top, and any Thumbprint from NG. If you haven't tried Belgium Red and Raspberry Tart have him pick up a bottle of each of those too.
Make sure that they have it. They were out when I went up there last Tuesday. Dancing Man Wheat that is. They had plenty of Black Top, IIPA and the fruit beers.
is it Appleton or Racine? they're a couple hours apart. Racine area will have access to more. but Appleton might have more special releases still on shelves.. depending where you look.
As I was typing that, I was praying they were close so that someone didnt call me out but I don't remember exactly where he lives as I've never been out to WI. Those two cities were what popped into my head. Fail. I'm fairly certain it's actually Appleton but I'll have to confirm tonight.
Pretty sure Appleton has a Woodman's too. I'd add New Glarus Moon Man as a must as well. And I'll second Black Top and Dancing Man. And IIPA. And Two Women if you like lagers.
Flanagan's in Appleton and Club Liquor in Menasha are his best bets. Flanagan's has a decent, if shrinking, selection with higher prices. been a while since i was at Club but i remember liking it. a quick jog up to GB yields a couple more options if he's interested in that route.
Appleton Woodman's has pretty much all NG variations right now. Flanagan's is a shadow of its former self.
