Now....I know I'm a little late to the party here....but I been frequenting Witch's Hat as of recently. I know everyone has their own personal taste and preferences...but Big Doedish has to be one of the most unbelievable DIPAs I have ever had. There are a lot of good IPAs/DIPAs in MI and Great Lakes region, but this has quickly become my favorite. Since they don't bottle/distribute this gem, I was hoping to get other people's opinions since there are such few reviews on this site. Side note: I know this may seem like a plug but I'm in no way associated with Witch's Hat (wish I was haha). Just want to see what others have thought.
Definitely a fan of it. Not sure if I'd call it my favorite, but then again not sure if I could call any DIPA my favorite. Ha. Definitely up there, though. I freaking love Witch's Hat and cannot wait till beerfest. I hear they are bringing some killers.
This and DRIPA are the new guard of Michigan double IPAs, taking over from the tired DCT and Hopslam. Big Doedish isn't an overly-complicated beer, and I would say that it's an elegant showcase for huge hops and burning alcohol. If you're a hop fanatic and haven't tried this yet, its worth the trip if you live in Michigan or the surrounds. Also, this was bottled at least once, maybe two years ago. I consumed four bombers of it quicker than any Stone beer that graces me fridge, and I'm an avid Enjoy By consumer.
I concur that Big Doedish IS a great beer. Funny, it just came up in discussion a few days ago, then I spotted this thread. GREAT to hear it is on tap! Would LOVE to see it bottled again. Anyone know if Witch's Hat ever plans to bottle it again? Laura
Im not sure if they are gonna bottle it anytime soon (all done by hand there), but with them moving and adding a 15bbl system, I think we will all be happy that is should always be on at the brewery and make it out to other bars much more frequently...
My cousin lives close to the brewery, so we meet up there a couple times a month. Have to agree about Big Doedish. I think all their beers are solid, and they have a good range of styles. Their bourbon barrel aged stuff is really good.
