A few friends and I are headed down for the Black Crowes concert at the Electric Factory on Friday, staying near Rittenhouse Square. Looking for locals to suggest good craft bars and also some solid restaurants in the area, ie within 2 miles. All suggestions are welcome.

Monks, Time, Jose Pistolas, Good Dog, Nodding Head, Khyber Pass Pub, Perch Pub, and Tria are good starting points for beer. Phillytapfinder.com is a tremendous resource.

Anything in mind for restaurants? Small plates, ethnic, expensive, hole in the wall? Narrow it down a bit, and I can provide some names.

I'll be attending that show as well. You will definitely want to hit up Monks if you have never been there. It's on 16th and Spruce. Other good places locally are:

Jose Pistolas - Excellent Mexican food with nice taps
Good Dog - Some good taps and decent food
Nodding Head - Brew Pub that has decent food

There are some nice places close to the venue too. IF you get a chance, check out Prohibition Taproom, The Trestle Inn and The Institute. All are within 2 miles of The Electric Factory.

Parc Bistro, Oyster House (first floor below Nodding Head) Village Whisky, Nomad Pizza, Bistro LaMinette, Percy St BBQ for a few of the less usual suspects.

Thanks all, I've been to monks, eulogy, khyber pass, brau haus Schmitz, memphis taproom, and barcade before. Appreciate all the suggestions.

I prefer farm to table food myself, I'm traveling with 2 chefs and 2 guys who will order dominos at 3 am. Anyway farm to table to upscale pub grub is my thoughts. I prefer ethnic but unfortunately my crew is split on that one.

Going to be an awesome show, the set lists on this tour have been great so far. Went to their last 3 shows in 2010 at the Fillmore before the hiatus.

We love going to Philly, so many good options for food and drink. Off the look into everyone's suggestions.

Definitely into Whisky too but damn those prices seem a little steep to me, but I good go for some duck fat fries! Any other solid whisky centric bars?

“upscale pub grub” Then you want Standard Tap. An excellent selection of local craft beer and and very tasty Gastropub menu. You Domino’s buddies can order the Standard Burger (which is an excellent burger) while the foodie dudes can order the Duck Confit Salad (which is outstanding).

“Our menu features a wide selection of hearty dishes using seasonal ingredients and local produce. Many of our signature dishes -- chicken pie, mussels & sausage, duck confit salad, pulled pork sandwiches and crispy smelts -- have been featured in both regional and national magazines. But the true pleasure comes in trying Chef Carolynn Angle’s daily creations including terrines and pates, entrees of wild game, shellfish and whole fish as well as delicious desserts to finish off your meal. Items change frequently and are listed on chalkboards throughout the bar.

We are proud to support initiatives like Pennsylvania’s Buy Fresh Buy Local movement and urban agriculture from Greensgrow Farms.”

P.S. The Standard Tap is walking distance from the Electric Factory.

Talula's Garden would be my suggestion for farm-to-table. Run by Aimee Oxley, the former owner of Django and the current owner of Kennett Square's Talula's Table. I think Stephen Starr is involved as well, for what that's worth.

Yeah man...I am really looking forward to this show. It's been quite a few years for me since I've last seen them. The setlist from 4/5 looked pretty sick...I'd love to hear them do Oh! Sweet Nuthin'

Walk south from Rittenhouse. Stop at Food & Friends near 20th/Spruce which has a nice selection of bottles. Continue to Pumpkin, a farm to table BYOB near 17th/South. Post dinner beers at The Cambridge near 15th/South which isn't on phillytapfinder but typically has a draft list that rivals the better ones in the city.

Or if you want to throw darts/billiards, Ten Stone near 21st/South is the place but temper your beer expectations.

For other upscale pub grub in that area look at Resurrection Ale House or Pub & Kitchen.

Update of the first night. Went to Parc St. BBQ, solid food an good selection of craft cans. Stopped at Cambridge for a few drafts, very cool bar. Finished the night off at Monks, epic as usual and my wallet is scared that it is 1 block from where I'm staying.

Off to food and friends this morning, Tria and then who knows where before the Black Crowes show tonight.

For before the show, I'd suggest Prohibition Taproom. 15 min walk to the electric factory.

A friend of mine lives right near there and we always seem to find ourselves walking to Village Whiskey for the best burger you'll ever eat hands down (and a whiskey if that's your thing) and then over to Monk's. Hits the spot every time.
