Recently grabbed a Great Divide Wolfgang doppelbock, when I got it home I found to my surprise that the bottled date was July of 2012. I found it in the back cooler room at a liquor store that generally knows what they're doing more than 99% of other local liquor stores; they pretty much only keep cellarable beers in the back cooler room in my experiences.

I know that the answer here is "Open it and see what it tastes like, it's not gonna kill you." And that is what I'm going to do. The only problem is that I've never had a Wolfgang fresh before, and only had a couple dopplebocks, so I don't know that my assessment will be very worthwhile to anyone, including myself. So I'm curious if anyone else has ever aged a Wolfgang, or even just what aging typically does to the flavor profile of a standard doppelbock. Thanks for any insight.

Dopplebocks do beautifully with time, Consecrator is my fave beer to sit on for two years. I'd open it sooner rather than wait, but with the big malt profile and higher ABV, you'll be fine.
