Ill tell ya. Im really not a fan of "black ipas" but this is excellent! Its more similar to that of arrogant bastard than your typical black ipa. Firestone walker is just great

I'll agree, great benchmark along with SSR.

Not sure how the whole Arrogant Bastard reference fits into the description though...

Man, I hate Black IPAs... but I like AB. I kept Steve-Nash-ing Wookey, but maybe I will give it a shot.

I agree Wookey Jack is fantastic. I've had it on tap, but bottles haven't hit the Chicago area yet. However, I wouldn't compare it to Arrogant Bastard.

The arrogant bastard was making reference towards it being an american strong ale and wookey is a black ipa but wookey doesnt taste really at all like the other 5+ black ipas ive had. In a good way

All I know is Wookey Jack is WAY better than Arrogant Bastard! Thats the only correlation!

Agree. My last two FW purchases: Wookey Jack, Parabola. Keep it up FW.

Wookey Jack is indeed great. I love that it's cheap and easy to find, as well.

However there is a certain member of this site that makes a homebrewed black IPA that absolutely wipes the floor with Wookey...

Is it the rye aspect that makes it good for you? I love this beer, love Black IPAs, not a huge fan of rye beers. Weird.

You should be used to it (from FW) by now.

I dont think its the rye i love rye beers though. I like it that its not nearly as roasty or burnt. "Black patent" malt flavored as most black ipas. Its built more like an ipa than a extremely hopped up stout of sorts. You know? A as i also not big on most hoppy stouts. Idk

Firestone Walker is quickly becoming one of my favorite breweries. Everything they make tastes great. Not to mention the amazing beer fest they put on last month.

looks like I am the only one that didnt like it. though the one I had tasted really old, and the hops were nasty and stale.

Wookey Jack was fantastic, and honestly, I think it was better than SSR. I think the only Black IPA I've had that was close was Hop in the Dark.

Wookey and Double Jack are awesome beers. Now we just need a Wookey Double Jack with a side of Ewok! I still have a bottle of FW's 15th anniv. to try and I am looking forward to it.

I'm not a fan of CDA's in general, I think the roast and hops clash rather than complement, but Wookey Jack is one of the best beers I've had this year. It's nothing like Arrogant Bastard. Wookey Jack is the best CDA I've tried, and one of the few I'll drink again.

I'm not a big Black or Rye IPA fan, but I found this one to be remarkably subtle in its rye character, super smooth and very tasty. Really liked it even more out of the tap.
