i didn't like the 1 Wooky J. i bought. i got a slight burnt or at least toasted... wood note that kinda dominated my ride. i did finish it which means i didn't gag on it, & maybe what i had eaten played a role? given the love expressed, i'll chalk it up to a bad day or just me.

i only had it on tap once during philly beer week...still waiting for bottles to hopefully show up at some point. i really enjoyed it though, they should put this in 4 packs too.

I still think it's ridiculous it hasn't hit VA. yet...I hope they brew a new batch when they do send it out this way.

For those that can't get their hands on Alpine Ugly, Wookey Jack is very comparable.

I'm not crazy about it either but I generally dislike the style. I just see it as a compromise. I agree with the poster who said the roasted malt and hop flavors clash rather than enhance one another.

i like the style, i thought wooky was good and drinkable but lacking the citrus-y hop punch i like in ssr or odell mountain standard

For those that enjoy the Black IPA style, I strongly recommend picking up Dubhe from Uinta. And for those of you that just thought to themselves, "Uinta? Is this freak serious?", trust me, I had the same reaction...

i had wookey fresh on tap at the firestone brewery before it was released in bottles. even though the hop profile was dominated by pine there was some citrus in there as well that may have faded by now in bottles. what really set the beer apart for me though was the interaction between the roasted malt profile and the spicy rye.

I just had my first Wookey Jack. It's awesome just like any other Firestone Walker beer I had.

You're not the only one crusian, I couldn't stand it. Had a burnt plastic flavor to my (still somewhat new) palate. Not ruling it out for the future, but it sure will be awhile. Could have always just been the bottle I had was bad

First Black IPA I have tried that I honestly enjoyed and would consider drinking again.

I am having this now, it is very good. When was this stuff bottled, nothing next to bottled on date. I got this on Long Island, but headed to San Diego tomorrow, can I get this stuff fresher out there?
