Hey I was wondering if anyone had any ideas or suggestions for finding beers from countries participating in the World Cup next month.

Obviously beers from England, Belgium, France, etc. are easy to find but I don't think I have ever seen a beer from Croatia or Ghana or Russia or Uruguay etc. Any idea how someone would go about getting their hands on beers from non-prototypical countries?

Go to World of Beer? I would not get my hopes up though unless you like shitty lagers.

nice...a spurs fan! There is a small enclave of fans here in my little town in Vermont.
More interested by Brazilian beers than Ghana or Croatia...

Sell one really good beer for £86million, then buy a bunch of mediocre beers in the transfer market.

Even if there were beers available from countries not known for beer production, something tells me they wouldn't be up to the same standard as what is available from countries that are known for beer production so why bother? Unless, of course, you are the type to just want to say you've had something.

Tough season, but it's always nice to see a fellow Yid on board here.

If you're looking at Brazil, try Xingu from there. Nothing special, but if you're looking at Brazil-specific beer, that's the best I can think of.

You're right. I know that the beers won't be up to the normal standard but it would be cool to still say I had a beer that originated from country X, Y and Z

It'd be cool to only drink beer from the countries that are still competing at each different level.

Unfortunately, that means you can't drink American beer after the first round this year.

Well, Nigeria are in it so you could have some of the Nigerian-brewed version of Guinness Foreign Extra. Not the same as the stuff from Ireland.

The mass produced skunky European lagers in green bottles are some of the worst beers in existance. That is why they are not worth trying.

A fellow Spurs fan! Let's hope they have a better season next year. You may want to try Hite or Cass (South Korean). I must admit, these beers are not very good. But it's the beautiful game that counts! Throw back a few session lagers during the summer while watching the US, unfortunately, get stomped in their group. I have been anticipating this World Cup since the US did so well in last summer's Gold Cup. But, I do know the WC is much different. Good luck on your beer hunt!

The "huge bomber" must have been the piss-lager in a 2L plastic bottle. That one definitely not worth trying. But they have quite an assortment of styles and flavors, most coming in 375mL, 12 oz or 1/2L bottles or 1/2L cans. You really need to educate yourself before making comments such as these.

If you know what you are looking for, I'm sure you can find many great beers brewed in any country. But if you walk into a store and pick up a six pack of something for no reason other than it is made in an unusual location, you are more than likely going to get a God-awful skunky lager in a green bottle. Just sayin.
