Okay, give me a clue where this is. I'm guessing Bamberg and since I'll be there in October I'll have to try the pizza. I'm sure I'll be having the beer.

When we were in Bamberg in 2010 we found an Italian guy serving pizza out of a window on Theatergassen near Obstmarkt (IIRC). It was very good. When we asked about it, we were told that it was "Palermo Pizza, the World's Best!" So we'll have to see.

That's it. I wasn't quite sure, I just remember it being closer to the Dutch than to the German word that I'd learned. It threw me for a loop.

Oooh. The Theatergasse stuff can't compare to this. It's all in the Sandstrasse, and here's the routine: get some Leberkaesbroetchen from the Metzgerei Liebold (red flag on left) to take with you to Schlenkerla to accompany your morning beers. Take in the city during the day, then return to Schlenkerla for some evening beers, followed by a slice of pizza from the pizza window (I like to add a dash of the Tabasco they have there on the small counter). All your Franconian food groups will be represented!

I could swear Born senf has Orval in it. Distinct "horse blanket" to it, whatever that is!

Is the pizza window just to the left of the Live Club door?

Nice one. Being of Thuringian birth, I second that.

Born & Thueringer are the most amazing combo.

I am reminded of the first time I saw Born Senf in the local REWE market a short time after the wall came down and they started "exporting" to the west (I am guessing 1994-1995). I traveled frequently to Thüringen in the years prior and was very familiar with both mustard & sausage (the Semmel/Brötchen are also the best in Germany), so I was very excited to see it in the store. The 250 ml plastic(!) pail of mustard cost DM 0.49 at the time. I was elated, to say the least.

They obviously didn't yet understand the entire concept of capitalism.

We had the "World's .Best" beer and pizza last night. A great combination. I don't know if I would call it the best, after all, I'm from Chicago, but it was very good. Monday will be the Leberkase.

My vote would be for Thüringer. As my wife (from Thüringen) would be making bratwurst out of my bollocks if I said anything else. They are dead good, though.

Well, we planned on having the Leberkaes yesterday morning and wash it down with Schenkerla. Alas, the Metzgerei is closed on Mondays (and Tuesdays). We found another Metzgerei nearby and bought theirs and took it to Schenkerla. So, to me, that is the best Leberkaes because I could buy it!

There is some really awesome authentic Italian pizza here in Feuerbach/Stuttgart. There is also thicker crust versions made for German tastes (from what the locals tell me). Then we have the Swabian version of pizza. I still don't think they can beat what I had in Italy. I think I have eaten more Italian food here than I have actual Swabian cuisine.

What, no spätzle? It's the Schwäbisch answer to pasta. Tastes great with Käse und Speck.
