Searched for a dedicated Wormtown thread and couldn't find one so I figured I'd make one.

Favorite Wormtown brew? Their pale ales and IPAs are pretty hyped up and popular, but I prefer their stouts and darker beers. Blizzard of 78 is definitely one of the best brown ales I've tried. Just got a pack of the Spies Like Us imperial stout, looking forward to trying it tonight.

And has anyone been to the Taproom? Volturno's pizza right next door is the perfect place to go after you go get a couple flights.

Favorite beer: Be Hoppy. Not huge on a lot of thier others but there are a few gems. The brown is good but Kelsen Paradigm is the best out there for me when I want a vrown ale.

The taproom is nice, moreso as the weather gets better. I thought Volturno was subpar at best. There are far better spots around there for food.

Favorite beer: Norm. One of my favorite stouts by any brewery anywhere. Like rich, coconut-infused chocolate milk. Amazing mouthfeel for a non-imperial stout too.

Going up to NH on friday I'll have to try and score some Kelsen. I definitely don't think Be Hoppy is as good as it's hyped up to be, I definitely think the Buddha Juice is my favorite pale ale of theirs.

And damn, I think the pizza at volturno is pretty good. I don't know much good food around Worcester, I haven't really frequented Worcester since I was a teenager.

I think Be Hoppy is a great West Coast style beer, I'll take it over a Santilli anytime. Seconded on Norm being my favorite offering of theirs.

Shrewsbury St. has probably the bets dining available in Worcester. Via, 111 Chophouse etc. Wish Mezcal was still there, their food is fantastic.

I really like Bottle Rocket. Be Hoppy is pretty decent - best thing at Gillette.

    Better than Sip and Santilli?

RE:Volturno, We got rude slow service the appetizers were okay but nothing special and the pizza bad. The sauce was not good and still raw dough inside. Tough to do in a 900 degree oven. I won't go back but maybe they have stepped it up.

Last time I was at Gillette (last year's Pats/Rams game), Sip and Santilli weren't available, to the best of my knowledge, so... I revise my previous statement based on this new and exciting information.

Be Hoppy is my favorite, I'm not sure if there is anything they make that I haven't liked .. except I've never tried Fresh Patch, pumpkin just isn't my thing. Be Hoppiest goes too far for me, I do like Be Hoppier. The MPL series are all good.

ed - I have had Fresh Patch after all, restaurant had it on draft .. it's a pumpkin ale, that would be my least favorite

Funny. Be Hoppy is one of my favorite NE-based West Coast IPAs, but I rarely am encouraged by their other hoppy offerings. They had a triple a few years back as an anniversary beer, which I liked, but otherwise I pass on Wormtown PA offerings. I thought Puxatawney Pils was pretty good as well. I don't recall drinking their stouts, unfortunately.

Fair enough, you might have gone on a bad day or possibly they were under different management at the time. When I went the pizzas were cooked perfectly but the main appeal for me was their odd specialty pizzas. The mushroom pizza they have is fantastic

The Puxatawney Pils was pretty lackluster in my opinion, kinda a flat bland pils. But I tried the Loral Pils and thought it was pretty tasty.

I've only had two of their beers: Be Hoppy and Blizzard of 78. While the former was solid, and I've had it a few times on draft, the latter was lacking in my opinion.

I liked Be Hoppy when it first came out. It was hazy, fruity, nice bitter backbone. Perfect. Now I think it's average at best. Too bad. Norm is hit or miss for me. Love Sweet Tats and the old ProAm Porter. Buddha Juice has been good as well.

I don't go out of my way but will stop into the tap room if in the area.

Get anything dark from Kelsen. Their Porter is a top 3 for me and their stouts are killer too. Very good local brewers.

You've got it all backwards. Be Hoppy is the beer lacking character, Blizzard is a damn good coffee brown ale

Haha, to each their own! I'll give Bizzard another try this winter maybe ....however, Be Hoppy has been consistently good when I've had it!

I think Wormtown has become slightly underrated in the last few years as places like Tree House and Trillium have created a tier above (for Massachusetts, at least). They were huge in influencing my tastes - I remember having Be Hoppier at my first ACBF and being like wow, this is what an IPA can be. Tennessee Tats was the first barrel aged beer I had, and the initial Norm batch absolutely blew my mind. It's awesome how readily available Be Hoppy is, and nice to see the variety of stuff they send to distro in 6 packs now.

Be Hoppy was the tits the first bunch of times I had it. Lately though, it's fallen off. I'm not sure if the beer has changed or my palate has... it's probably the latter.
