Funny how people were going bananas over Be Hoppy before production was ramped up and now that it is widely available people are poo pooing it.

Let me put on my shocked face. Yet another brewery that you prefer the stouts and darker beers. Rinse and repeat.

I think they changed the recipe or process well before they ramped up production. It was a different beer when only available in bombers.

    Favorite beer: Be Hoppy

I like BH , it's a consistent, readily available, reasonably priced hoppy beer . It's all over the metro area on tap & package, kudos to their sales folks.

Haven't liked many other Wormtown beers at all, but my volume drinking of BH makes up for it.

I can remember trying to hunt down Be Hoppy before Trillium, Treehouse, Night Shift, etc. hit the scene. It was ahead of its time for sure back then but now compared to the others just another IPA unfortunately.

I'm going Fort Point or Exhibit A Cat's Meow over Be Hoppy if I'm in the market for a hoppy 6.5ish beer every time. Competition is what has hurt the buzz around Be Hoppy, not availability.

I agree, I don't think bigger production has anything to do with it. The beer is really inconsistent in my experience and the west coast style is not as popular as it used to be. The inconsistency of other popular IPAs don't bother me so much because even when they are slightly off they are still very good; not the case with Be Hoppy.

We never had a good, local west coast style IPA so it felt like a big thing. But if you went to a place like San Diego there were a ton of other IPAs you could get that were just like it.

Be Hoppy kills it as a West Coast IPA it was never a NE IPA. This years Ales for ALS hits the NE IPA flavor and feel but more like a Trillium Street or Alchemist where the IPAs still have bitterness

I feel like "new owners" is a bit of a stretch there. "New partners/investors," sure. David has been involved for almost 3 years now I think.

Agreed, but I guess technically speaking there are three new owners, albeit "long time friends" as the article states. Either way, good for them. It'll be nice to try out some new brews from Wormtown, especially the BA stuff.

Sweet merciful Dionysus, my prayers are answered!

I have a list of other breweries I would like to open locations within staggering distance of my sofa.

I agree, but with a caveat. Exhibit A and Fort Point are NEVER available at any regular bar where Bud Light and Sam are rampant. Sometimes Be Hoppy is, and it is the best choice on the menu by a lot. There are many places in the Boston area, where if they didn't have Be Hoppy, the next best choice is a Vodka Tonic.

For me it's a little bit like an east coast version of Pliny (mind you, I didn't have access to Heady very often, which is a better comp overall). Both were among my favorites until the cloudy revolution came along.

Jake n Joes in my neighborhood took Be Hoppy off recently and put on Bottle Rocket, which is still the best beer on their menu (full of other stupid sports bar beers) by a bunch. I'm glad that Wormtown is adding to their roster, though now TH is almost equidistant!

I don't agree. I'll take a Sam Boston Lager over the wildly overrated Be Hoppy

IMO Be Hoppy has made a comeback of sorts in the past few months.

Initially was a sensation, then not good as demand grew, inconsistent as demand plateaued, then settling in as a perfectly fine, reliable, consistent beer in an overcrowded IPA market now. I'll usually fall back on a BH if a multi tap doesn't do anything for me, & haven't been disappointed recently.

Anyone else try the Ales for ALS from from 8/16 yet? I thought it was a great hazy/juicy New England style ipa.

Anyone have updates on the Keene brewery? I haven’t seen a thing about it since the announcement.

IMO the roller coaster of Be Hoppy continues. Last several I’ve had (draft, at both beer-centric & not so beer-centric places) have been pretty poor, getting a lot of onion & even the dreaded big D in this beer.

However if history is isn’t indication it should be coming back to “good” in the near future. Hope so, ‘cuz my patience is running thin re the consistency of this beer. The only reason I’m giving that beer so many chances is due to its vast availability & when it’s on, it really hits the spot with me as a great IPA.
