Yeah I had this beer on cask at Beer Study one night. Very unimpressive. Too light, too watery, not enough bourbon. Not a drain-pour, but not an buy-again either

that sucks you had a bad bottle of Foothills. Personally I've never had a bad BBL People's, but I feel for your disappointment. It is a pretty good beer. Not world class, but good. You should give it another chance if you ever get the chance

    My biggest barrel-aged fails:

-Foothills BBA Hoppyum: this just did not work for me. I didn't like Doom from Founders either (BA IPAs are clearly not my thing), but it was a step up from this one.

-De Proef Reinaert Flemish Wild Ale: I was shocked because I love wilds/sours and most of the people I shared the bottle with enjoyed it, but I was getting creamed corn and baby diarrea from this. Not pleasant at all and I drain-poured my glass.

-Heavy Seas Greater Pumpkin: no balance to speak of, tasted like cheap bourbon (think Old Crow) dumped into an okay pumpkin beer.

I can count my drain pours on one hand, and this was one of them. Based on the reviews it looks I'm in the minority though.

Chalk up another tally for Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Thank goodness I had it as part of a tasting, so I didn't have to figure out what to do with the rest of a 4-pack.

Spinning what you said wasn't my intention. My point is simply that, the fact that Oude Tart is very sour isn't what is bad about it. I've had at least 2 beers, 3F Golden Blend and Cantillon Rose de Gambrinus, that are WAY more sour than Oude Tart, and loved them both, because they bring so much more to the table in terms of flavor. Oude Tart is just sour flavor and nothing else. None of the other characteristics that I like about a Flemish sour are there.

As for the ratings, the fact that a lot of people seem to like something has little to do with whether or not it is good. As craft beer drinkers, we are in a very small minority of beer drinkers. And none of us would say that Miller Lite is a good beer, even though millions of people drink it and claim to like it. So to point out ratings to insinuate that my assessment of the quality of the beer is wrong just doesn't hold much water.

I was talking about what you actually did, not what you did or did not 'intend' to do; which is sympomatic of the entire discussion, reading for content is kind of a challenge:

Wasn't talking about your assessment is 'wrong' as you put it, I said you were in the minority. Your conception of insinuation is merely a projection you made instead of reading the written word(s) I hit you up with.

But if the notion that you're in the minority on beeradvocate doesn't convince you that your feelings on Oude Tart are not shared, that's cool. . .

How about that back to back World Beer Cup championships in the Flanders Red category. . . ?

I'm gonna go listen to some Kool Moe Dee 'how ya like me now' . . .

Brrrbon was the first Bourbon beer I ever tried. It was a pretty big letdown. The beer itself I remember being decent, but the barrel character was damn near non existent.

My worst one was Southern Tier Cuvee Series 3. Was so sweet, and for the price, $19.99? was atrocious
