Think of it like getting a bottle of Cave Creek Chili Beer. You can experience the horror first hand, or you might end being one of those who likes it.

Gotta say bully guppy as well, it was like drinking barrel aged nail polish remover. I'm just glad it was a friend's bottle on nye and we had a baller stout and murda'd out to try after thoroughly washing the taste out of our mouths.

YES I came here to say Heavy Seas Greater Pumpkin. Total bourbon bomb the base beer couldn't handle the barrel and it lost all sweet and spice flavors. Weird since the base beer is a pretty great representation of the style.

Barrel Aged Frog's Hollow Double Pumpkin Ale by Hoppin Frog. tasted as if a shot of bad bad whiskey was dropped into it and then stirred with a piece of burnt oak.

Saw a few mentions of this one and I agree, tasted like oxidized cabernet to me...honestly, if I had closed my eyes and not known what it was, I'm not sure I would have even guessed it was beer. I sent the barrel back to my distributor immediately. Think it was just a bad barrel or was this just that bad?

=( I'm genuinely convinced you got a bad bottle. Or maybe I like that beer way more than I should, but man... it wasn't THAT bad.

MOA Imperial Stout aged in Pinot Noir barrels... yeah, not worth the $20 4-pack

Clown Shoes Flight of the Pimp is probably my last favorite that I've ever had. ALSO, the next I'm probably more mad at myself because I traded for 2 of them. But BA Token from Alpine was pretty bad because it soured.

I guess it is possible, I just don't know if I am willing to pay another $9 to find out. I mean there are a lot of negative reviews for it, we can't all be wrong can we?

Oh also.... BA Vanilla Porter by Breckenridge. I don't like the non BA version and I thought the BA version was even worse.

Widmer's Kill Devil rum barrel aged brown ale. Tasted like thin, vaguely brown sugary watery beer.

People seem to think that you can take any crappy beer and stick it in a spirit barrel to make something awesome but the beer has to be good on it's own and suited to the additional characters that come from barrel aging.

When was the last time a beer NOT named Oude Tart won the gold medal at the World Beer Cup in the Flemish/Flanders Red category?

    Worst of the worst:
    Big Sky Kriek
    Mikkeller Black Islay
    Rum Hunahpu
    Widmer Brrrrbon

    cnbrown313 and Miruguy like this.

Probably not. And everyone drinks differently. Honestly the biggest problem I had with it is one that lots of people noticed... not thick enough for the style!

Then again, being from TX, I'm overly impressed with almost EVERY imperial stout I come across, due to the fact that there isn't exactly a plethora available. I'm sure BCBS will destroy the likes of Wake Up Dead when I finally have it.
