I have foiund the shortage of brewing interest and talent in Canada utterly gobsmacking.
For a place where a dozen 5% Coors costs $25ish, you'd think thered' be a THRIVING homebrewing scene.....nope. Almost none.
It is surreal how a people can simply lay down to government paternalism if beaten enough.

I was on vacation in Belize last month- spent time in San Ignacio, Dangriga, and Glovers Atoll.

Belikin lager (referred to as "Beer") was decent - an all malt lager so a bit more/better flavor than an AAL. Their stout was good, but their light beer was bad.

Most places had Belikin lager, Belikin Light, Belikin Stout, and a version of Guinness Foreign Export Stout that is brewed by Belikin. All refillable bottles. A few spots had a couple other imports.

I worked on the construction of the Schlitz Brewery in Winston-Salem in the late 60s. We were union brick workers employed by Kelly Brick out of Philadelphia. We were shocked by the wages. Schlitz was huge, but soon began to lose market share. The brewery was acquired by Strohs in their move south. As I recall Miller outsold Bud here back then. We've spoken of this before, but it's still noteworthy. It's a fickle business for sure.

We were there in September right before hurricane Mitch hit. It was getting hot then and the water was very hot. Cold Belican was awesome, and we went to Tikal in Guatemala and drank their beer too.

We took a day trip to Tikal. I had a bottle of Gallo beer with lunch, not very good.

We took a day trip too. When we were at Takal in `98 the civil war just ended and there were army troops camped all along the highway on the way there. A guy was selling Gallo beer in a cooler at the base of one of the towers. Must be way different now of course.

Disney cruiselines. They have a number of bars, plenty of booze and BMC, and a few near and ex craft, but not much real craft. If you call Guinness craft, they do have that.

I can’t think of any place in MI that is dry. The last towns went wet.

I remember the Navaho Nation as being dry, but they have Casinos now that sell alcohol. Other than that it is dry, but does not include all of any county.

I reckon that if you lived in a dry county in the US, that would suck.

Just from a casual perusal of that map, I'd say that a good bit of that North Carolina piece is out of date. Maybe state run ABC stores is the "yellow" factor.

Taiwan is really against beer almost everywhere. 2-weeks in hell. Surprisingly, near Taipei 101 (tallest building in the country) there is a Gordon Biersch chain brew pub. I felt like a 5 year-old pleading with my business companion.. can we go, can we go, please, please. He was happy with his burger and I was happy with my beer.

I'm not sure about the distro, but anywhere Mikkeller SD can be found you have a winner. I've loved every NEIPA ive tried so far, if you can get it you can scratch that itch.

I've been to central Asia a couple of times in the past few years, to Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Both pretty dreadful - terrible metallic macro lager for the most part although I did get a decent(ish) dark lager at a restaurant that brewed its own in Tashkent.

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan does now have a craft brewery though so if there is hope for Kyrgyzstan there is hope for anywhere: https://eurasianet.org/s/all-woman-brewery-brings-craft-beer-to-kyrgyzstan

    Oh! You were being serious!

You might want to disconnect the flux-capacitor on your Delorean the next time you make the trip up here.

Some of what you are saying may have been partly true a number of years ago, but most of it is far off the mark. I mean, "no good breweries in BC!" Really? Vancouver has, arguably, the best craft beer scene in Canada, and this has been the case for several years. Bellwoods in Toronto is world class. Their annual event attracts some of the best breweries in the world ( ). They don't come here because there is next to no interest in craft beer or brewing...

Sure, some of the macro stuff is far more expensive up here, but craft prices are similar to those in the States, and many imports can be cheaper. Because of the LCBO's buying power in Ontario, beers like Rochefort 10 and Orval are cheaper here than anywhere else in North America.

A perusal of your reviews suggests you've had a rather poor selection of beers from here. I'd think the US craft scene was lousy too if on a trip to Vermont all I had was a couple beers from Magic Hat, a Blue Moon and something from Sam Adams... Next time reach out to a local who can direct you to the best their area has to offer.

    Cheers.
