Beer with a higher abv can only be sold at specific liquor stores I believe. Or if it's above 4% then it cannot be on draft.

    Someone help me out here.

I live in Maryland but honestly have to go to VA to find any good beer (at least as far as selection and price goes) and its a pain. There's a Wegmans in VA i go to when i can that has a great beer section at great prices. What's so frustrating is I have a Wegmans here in MD about 10 min away but they can't sell beer because of some ancient state law. Aaaaaaargh!

Is this distro list current? I don't get NB in New York but I was in Florida last August and two bottle shops had Lips of Faith bombers, but this shows that Florida isn't getting anything....

The best beer we have access to in MS is Yazoo. I have to drive to Memphis, TN or Birmingham, AL to get anything. Everything else I have is via trade. It's why I don't get to try much from the west coast b/c who the hell wants to trade RR/Deschutes/FW for Yazoo or Lazy Magnolia.

    *sigh*

You don't have Oskar Blues yet...? That's weird because they seem to have good distribution all up and down the I-95 corridor (including DC and VA). I wonder if there's some kind of law or weird distributor monopoly that's preventing them from expanding into WV.

When I last lived in Utah (2007), all beer at the grocer / gas stations was 4% max. Anything on draft anywhere in the state was 4% max. You could purchase "real" beer at any state owned liquor store but it was warm and it was priced per bottle. Depending on the liquor license many bars had bottles of "real" beer for purchase.

Evanston, WY was only abot 75 minutes from SLC and that's where we got out Fat Tire, Alaskan, kegs, fireworks, and ****.

Tennessee blows for distro. Knoxville in particular still hasn't gotten bourbon county stout, because our distributors apparently screwed up paperwork. Which makes them close to worthless. No Founders (yet, maybe soon?), no Bells, a smattering of DFH, no Great Lakes, no Cigar City, no Westbrook. Thankfully, we get Terrapin, Lagunitas, Straight to Ale, and... well, that's pretty much it among the big boys. Sierra Nevada of course, but EVERYONE gets Sierra Nevada, unless you live in an area dominated by Sharia Law or something. Not to mention, Knoxville has no world beater breweries here.

Oh, and above 6.5% ABV, straight to the liquor store for you. Want to go on Sunday for a 9% stout? Well, fuck you. Because Jesus.

West Virginia has it bad. Really really bad. Here's their list for Seek-A-Brew.

That's it. All the breweries. Anyone else going blu blu blu we didn't get BCBS or our beer isn't fresh enough has no idea how bad it can be.

Is it 4.00%? since BMC are all 4.2, that would REALLY narrow your options....

The San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, home to 1.8 million people. 260 square miles. Served by Allied Distribution, hated by almost anyone who knows anything about the beer industry in the area. Godawful distribution, highlighted by BevMo and Total Wine stores that get very little good stuff and independent bottle shops that get shafted when they try to get anything rare in.

One must drive a good distance (in my case, 20+ miles through the worst traffic in the USA) to get to a different distribution territory to get anything decent. And THEN you're fighting with the beer nerds in the 2nd most populous city in the USA (and first most populous county) for whatever scraps you can find.

There are many great things about living in LA, but craft beer is not very high on that list.

My vote goes to West Virginia. I went there about 2 years ago and everywhere in Morgantown I looked had maybe Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada and that was about it. Couple that with their strange laws for breweries/small number of breweries and you have the perfect storm for a craft beer deficit.

Actually they can. The law in MD changed about a year or two ago. I used to get online orders when I lived there.
