I have no idea but it would make sense since people here really seem to want it regardless if its not really that great. Its a PA beer so it should be all over the Northeast no ?

I am from south florida, and visit often. I currently live in baton rouge, baton rouge is MUCH worse than south florida, and I'm sure there are places much worse than baton rouge, so Imo south florida is nowhere near the bottom of the list.

Are you in Montgomery County? Please tell me someone else in this conversation lives in Montgomery County. Our distribution is atrocious. And if somehow a "rare" beer does make it into our vicinity, we have to pay double what everyone else pays for it. I hate my location!

Texas, with their archaic distribution laws, is pretty bad.

Rural NE Pennsylvania/Binghamton NY area. My gripes are probably true of any rural/semi-rural area...we get a good amount of breweries, but only their standard stuff. When it comes to rares, seasonals, and one-offs, they never make it out of the big cities, and if they do make it out here, we get about a single case that is immediately demolished by truck-chasers. Luckily I found another bottle shop that has been getting some incredible things in, and they're in Pennsylvania surprisingly.

Surprised Founders is not in CA. But you have SO MANY good breweries there!

I was just in Austin, and they had some stores with incredible selections, from small package stores to large beverage stores like Specs. I was very impressed with the selections.

i can only speak for new york, and outside of manhattan, distribution really isn't that good, even in long island where i live. you have to go to a craft beer specialty store to find anything other then bud light, blue moon, coors, and sam adams etc. and the craft beer stores with a big selection with good prices are hard to find.

I'm in TX and I've been able to try many BA 'hall of fame beers' in the Dallas area. I've got a Total Wine and several beer stores within 5 minutes of my home with fantastic selections. When I leave my office downtown I pass a Specs, World of Beer, and 6 other pubs with decent offerings. Sometimes my trip home can be a long journey

We have less than that and most of the population here is in small pockets. And most of them drink bud light or busch light. Natty is obviously the choice of college students. Hell ive had a group of 4 ppl leave the bar I work simply because we didnt have bud light bottles, just draft. But I believe that may help explain why we get ZERO rare beers and very very few decent breweries. Im sure as I type this a truck carrying founders or bells is driving through thru the state right now....probably even victory. Who knows maybe even a truck carrying pliny headed to philly...oh well.

I often find myself making the commute to Pennsylvania when I need a good Michigan beer. You are more than welcome to join me when I go up for some Hopslam.

You said it man! I went there for Christmas and was looking around at the grocery stores and couldn't find anything I had even heard of! You can go to liquor stores and get some good stuff that has decent to high abv but that's a hassle. You can't even buy wine at the grocery store in Utah. Although, when I was flying back, the airport had a lot of cool beers including an imperial stout called outer darkness (a Mormon pun) which I thought was hilarious. wanted to buy it and take it home but it was at a bar and he said I had to drink it all there. at 10% I didn't want to drink it before getting on a plane. still wish I could try it though.

Central PA is so weird. We get plenty of different breweries here, but get none of the rare or one-off items. Tons of Ommegang around, but you'll never see any of the Game of Thrones beers. Plenty of Goose Island around, but none of the sisters or the Burbon County beers ever make an appearance (BCBS shows up on tap sometimes). That's just a couple examples. After having lived in VA, this place sucks for beer. I have never seen Victory at Sea in a bottle around here, but Sculpin is a shelf turd.

It could be worse - you could be in St. Mary's County.

We get a whopping zero bottles of rare beer our way...AFAIK this is the rarest stuff I've ever seen down here:
    • BCBS (no variants, natch)
    • Nugget Nectar (how rare )
    • Allagash Merveilleux
    • Some of the more limited Stone beers, like W00tstout, Enjoy By, and Crime/Punishment (NO Ruinten, though)
    • Uhhh...does DuClaw Pumpkin Retribution count?
Then again, what does the rest of MD really get in the way of rare beer? Off the top of my head, Firestone Walker's BA offerings, some of the semi-limited Bruery stuff (i.e. Bois), and that's about it. MD gets Perennial, too, but I've never heard of anyone finding Abraxas in this state (unless PP is charging $945847373 a bottle for it and I wasn't made aware.) There's also shit ton of Mikkeller beer around the Annapolis and Baltimore areas, shame only 17 people give a crap about Mikkeller.

It's not the lack of good beer that's the problem. It's the lack of beer with significant trade value that's the problem. And the lack of monies that's the problem as well. :slight_frown: Really, when you're from MD, you have to rely on a plan B - it's called "going to Virginia or DC." :stuck_out_tongue:

I am going to go out on a limb here and say the Middle East. Y'all need to quite looking for things to complain about. Big up to all those boys over there, American or otherwise, that can't get a beer worth a shit.

And if distro sucks one can always homebrew. It is legal in all states in this great country, is it not?

Visiting my bottle shops here in Rhode Island and simply hopping over the border to MA, I can see a huge difference. National varieties never mind the delicious Jack's Abby/Wormtown stuff are all available in MA and RI is left out. Luckily we just got Dogfish Head back.

Yuengling has just started expanding into New England. The reason they have not been distributing there was due to recycling laws many N.E. states have that they couldn't comply with....at least that's what they said on the brewery tour.

North Dakota sucks. Used to be able to use France44 to order Lagunitas/Surly/Stone, and now they wont even ship to this garbage state.
