Worst looking beers

An imperial Stout that isn't pitch black and is actually dark amber.

Glad to hear you liked it! I'll agree that batch turned out particularly ugly, though it sounds like yours may have been even worse than usual. We've made some minor changes to the most recent Berliner batch, both to improve the appearance, as well as provide a more delicate balance to the beer.
Ultimately though, we believe that a non interventionist approach and gentle handling result in more flavorful and particularly aromatic beers. Working with wild yeast and bacteria in everything (ours are not floculent at all), this often means our beer will be cloudy. Its a tradeoff for certain, but appearance is the less important of the three for us. I suspect many of the brewers of the beers pictured here have a similar philosophy, and with that, you will get bottles and kegs with more sediment than others.
I also don't think it's a coincidence that many pictures here are of hoppy beers, as we believe that the fragile hop aromatics are easily lost through filtering and to a lesser extent fining among other methods. Obviously we arent alone in that belief, though it's impossible to make the argument that world class hoppy beers aren't made with various more aggressive techniques as well.

Edit: I neglected to add, the large portion of unmalted wheat in that beer also contributed to the milky cloudiness. Without aggressive steps to remove it, or a very long time to settle or be consumed by the Brett, it's a natural result of the process and ingredients. Again though, we agree, not our prettiest beer!

Thanks for the response. It was right along with with what I had thought about the beer. Seriously though, awesome stuff. The Cranberry Bu Weisse was out of this world pretty with that red, the regular Bu Weisse was still tasty as hell as I said. Everything else I have had so far has been awesome as well. Wish I could have made it to the event at 16 Tons last week. keep sending it to Eugene. Prost!

Many quality craft styles like Wit or Kolsch carry a light color too, but they all have a bit more depth to their appearance than the above.
