The purpose is what? I really don't get what the purpose of waxing the bottles is.

The worst wax job I have ever seen was from a brewery in CA called Brew Rebellion. The beer was some sort of hazelnut stout or porter, and I think they added the shells from the nuts to the wax when they dipped the bottles. The picture I saw looked like genital warts on the bottle. Horrible.

Supposedly the wax is to create an additional seal to lessen the possibility and impact of oxidation. I don't necessarily think it matters much as the up-front bottling process probably matters more in the long run.

Did you ever see the OG KY Rye Chiquen bottles from Against the Grain? Wax dipped with feathers all over the wax. What a mess.

Haha. It never fails to amaze me when certain things make their way out to the public and we're left to wonder, "Is there nobody telling these guys that's a bad idea?"

And I'm not just referring to beer, applies to music, movies, all types of products.

That was the worst idea....it looked like the chicken was beaten to death with that bottle. That one alone is the worst waxing ever, and I like that brewery.

I think if you're gonna make a bottle look all fancy schmancy, stick with the gold/silver foil (perfect example – Espresso Oak Aged Yeti). It's much easier to remove than trying to crack that wax. Only one to do wax the right way is Maker's Mark

First time I received a New Glarus bomber in the mail via trade I thought it had leaked and left some weird residue around the top of the bottle...

I understand what you are saying and agree it's a new low of complaining on a BA topic...but...I do like things more if they have a nice appearance regardless of importance, functionality is first and foremost but...

All jeans will keep you warm and dry but...
All automobiles will get you to and from but...
Lots of restaurants serve great food but the ambiance...
    Walmart sells EVERYTHING but...

    and so on...

Also, if your going to start a thread on bad wax jobs...pics please...

holy fuck! This!!! I busted my knuckle using keys and a lighter to open a Salado kriek then a couple weeks later, after a few beers, got the bright idea to use a box opener. Yeah I know it was stupid but it surely didn't end well. Cleaned it out well and tons of liquid bandaid did the trick.

    My thoughts regarding the waxes mentioned;
    -NG/Logsdpon - I don't care about your hippie/natural agenda...stop waxing
-The Bruery - maybe your beers would cost less if you used less wax?
-Ryed Chiquen - loved that bottle. Feathers were cool and wax was pretty standard

No one has mentioned Side Project/Perennial and their awesome use of a pull tab under the wax, similar to Maker's Mark. Great job there to help us out!

Double Endless Skyway Bitter by Black Mesa from Oklahoma. Took me longer to open than it did to drink. Cut myself with a pocket knife in the process.
