I'm just wondering because i'm thinking about trading for this (someone offered it to me) and I'm just wondering if I should pull the trigger. How are the older vintages of Dark Lord holding up? I've had the 08 and it was amazing! I'm just wondering because I was planing on keeping it for a while If I do go through with it.

08 is pretty good, but 07 was bad to begin with and never got any better. Lots of sludge in many bottles of the 07.

thanks, yeah i mean I had this year's DL and honestly I didn't like it at all. No one (over 20 people) that have tried it with me liked it either. I really really wish they would listen to people and go back to the 08 version :slight_frown:

    No. We just did 06-12.

11 was my favorite flavor, but a little thin in body. Huge coffee flavor still/
08 was my second favorite with a really viscous, chocolatey body and light fruitiness to the malt.
09 was also pretty good, but merlot+chocolate-like
    10 was still surprisingly hoppy

Then i'd say 06 was next best. Oxidized up front, but straight up fudge finish. Eating wheat thins with it helped cover oxidation. The fudge finish was really nice and save and otherwise over-the-hill beer
2012 is losing that "green apple" noticed from fresh bottles, but it's still tasting a little sweet and "green" IMO. I've been told DL is not intended to be opened and consumed until after thanksgiving.

2007 was my least favorite vintage. It had all the oxidation without the heavy fudge finish. It was also super sludgey. It had a different, slightly lighter brown color than any other vintage.

So FWIW, I wouldnt trade for a pre-08. In fact, I'd just stick to '11 and '09 for the time being.

Also, hilarious story from the DL vertical. A BA/RB/Reddit-user whose actual name is Chad (never met him before, so I dont know his handle or which site he uses -- he was a friend of a friend) showed up to the tasting late. We all had tasted the beers before he got there and decided none of us liked 07 and were gonna drain pour. Instead, we poured all of our 07's in tasters labeled 06-12 and asked chad to tell us which "vintage" he liked best. After a few minutes, we couldnt hold back the laughter. Oh, the mighty power of suggestion.

It's been a few years but I liked the 07. Only complaint was it was really sweet. 08 is the best IMO.
