I've been somewhat wanting to get into home brewing for a whole now but the whole endeavor intimidates me.

I came across this guy's setup on Craigslist and am wondering if it's a good buy to get me started our if I should pass on it? Seems like all I would need would be my ingredients right?

Thanks in advance for any input

Yeah, no I would not. Not a fan of alluminum. You will be happier with stainless. But before all that, read how to brew and see what's involved. Then look around for equiptment

That's a really good price for all of that equipment, and it does look like everything is there except ingredients to get you started brewing. Having an aluminum pot isn't so bad, but stainless is better. If you've got the money, go for it. But also consider that money is a pretty good investment for not being certain if you want to get into brewing. Read the equipment section in howtobrew.com (free online) or get the later edition in print copy. That could give you extra insight to help you decide.

That looks to be a very good/cheap way to all-grain brewing. I personally would not worry about the aluminum pots, be careful what you clean them with and you won't have any problems.

holy crap. talk about goin straight in to the deep end. if you're intimidated by the whole endeavor, you might want to start out on a smaller scale. i just recently brewed my first batch and started with a 1 gallon kit from northern brewer. for about $60 bucks, the kit comes with almost everything you need. if you happen to not like homebrewing you're only out less than $100, versus the $400 for that setup you posted.

Aluminum vs. Stainless. I brewed with an aluminum pot and a stainless pot (I split my boil among two pots) for 11 years. The big difference is that stainless doesn't stain. Pretty much cosmetic. I am in the process of upgrading and went with stainless because of certain bells and whistles that were packaged with the kettle, but I have no regrets about using a cheap aluminum kettle. FWIW, the stainless kettle I used is thin-walled and was actually less expensive than aluminum kettle (although the aluminum one was package with a burner, as a turkey fryer).

I've dabbled in the past with cheap extract kits. This thread should have stated should this get me started sufficiently with ALL GRAIN. That was my mistake.

Also. Not $400. Everyone knows craigslist asking prices are negotiable 95% of the time (:

For $300 I think I'm gonna jump on it.

Yea if you can haggle it to 250-300 thats a great deal. Aluminum is fine.

You have to buy it now so we can find out why he spent all that money and time to only make 4 brews. That's a nice package to get started.
