Hey guys! first time posting. Just wanted to share an experience I had tonight. I'm a huge fan of bourbon barrel aged stouts. In the month of April I spent over 200 dollars loading up on Parabola, Lagunita's high Westified, and some 2014 Abyss bottles I scored at a local store. My justification was that if the beer was well regarded within the craft community, I would be willing to pony up the cash and buy a couple bottles. So tonight, after missing the 10 o clock last call at the Bruery, me and a friend went over to Tap's in Brea to grab a drink and saw in red bold letters on their tap list, "2015 Remy's Pappy". I was stoked, I felt I had struck gold. I've read about this beer in the past and heard it was one of the most sought after beers in the O.C. Then I saw the price tag. $60 for a 22 oz bottles to only be consumed on premise. My heart sank. My friend seeing my excitement and sudden sadness, offered to pay $40 dollars of the $60 price. My heart was torn. $20 for a 11oz pour of Remy's Pappy. Long story short, after sending the waitress away 3 separate times to mull over my decision I ended up passing. The question I have for you guys who may have had this beer in the past or know of its reputation : Did I make a mistake tonight? What would you do in my position.

btw: Tap's in Brea still has Remy's Pappy on their tap list for those who are seeking this beer out.

It was $35 with a 2 bottle limit when it came out and sold out in less than 2 hrs. It is probably the least expensive way to try it. Someone probably won't trade you one for $60 worth of beer and if you try to buy one on the secondary market it will probably be much more. Also, if you weren't willing to pay $20 to try it with a generous friend who would put up $40 then it doesn't seem like you really wanted to try it. I would have done it even with 2 bottles of it sitting in my cabinet.

dang it.. didnt realize they had a public sale of this for $35. Would have definitely snagged a bottle or two had I known. It's not that I didn't want to try it for $20, I didn't want my friend to have to spend $40 for a beer he didn't seem all that excited for. If I'm going to drink a beer as big and well regarded as Remy's Pappy I would want my friend to enjoy and cherish it just as much as I would.

They may have had a public sale, but it wasn't, to my knowledge anyway, announced beforehand and it was only out at a specific bottle shop out in Corona, and it was gone in less than 2 hours. So I wouldn't beat yourself up over not having made it to pick any up.

I'd have paid it, missed out on the release. Price typically won't keep me from trying a beer once, it'll definitely keep me from trying repeatedly though.

I split the bottle with 4 buddies at TAPS and I'm glad I got to try it, but now having tried it I am glad I didn't seek out the bottles because of this..

    Parabola > Remy's Pappy
    BCBS > Remy's Pappy

    I'd pay $60 for Remy's before I'd pay $85 for Cable Car.

No. For two reasons, cost and quality. Unless it's Firestone Walker, I won't pay over $20 for a bomber/750 ml.

I was fortunate to try Remy last year at Firestone Walker Invitational. Nice beer, but it wasn't even in my top 5-8 beers at the festival.

The Firestone invitational has many of the finest brews/breweries in the country. The top 5-8 beers is pretty Heady company (punny intended).

easy answer NO the more people buy that the more the price will increase..at the end of the day there are just too many great beers out there to justify that price.

You are talking restaurant price compared to distribution price. Always going to be more. $11 for 6 oz glasses of parabola is way over bottle price too. There will always be a new beer that you want to try. $/oz parabola and bcbs are tough to beat.

For some reason this made me harken back to "The Torment of Ann". Damn, that post was tops...

I think the "worth" of it is going to depend on the person, so really the question is 'is it worth it to you?'. By not paying I think you decided the answer to that yourself. Will you forever live to regret this notch in your beer belt? Doubtful - plenty of beer, and plenty of good beer to help us forget the ticks that got away.

I'd drink Miller Light before I'd drink Bud Light, but I don't plan on doing either.

Is it still on tap? I don't see it on their tap list. I personally would gladly pay $60 to try.
