For the original question, I would rather stay at home rather than go to a release party. I do not mind a small crowd, but am not really into huge crowds for beer. For the second question, the pumpkin beer party would be fine by me, especially if it had some of the more interesting beers from the style--like those made by Elysian.

    Would you rather:
    1. Pay 5 cents/oz for only one beer for the rest of your life that rates below 85 on Beer Advocate,

    2. Pay $5/oz for any beer at any time with no concerns about distribution or availability, except...
...in both scenarios, your annual beer budget is $720

For those that don't want to do the math, #1 gives you a little over three 12 oz containers of beer per day. #2 gives you one 12 oz container of beer per month.

For argument's sake, ALL beers are available in 12 oz containers, so you don't have to worry about spending two months worth of rations on a bottle of Arthur if you choose option #2

Bonus points for picking your beer if you choose option #1.

With those two options, I'm staying at home. I do go out to the occasional release, but only if it's beer I really really want, or it's at a brewery that doesn't turn into a madhouse over a release.

However, if the options were go out to your local beer bar or stay at home, I'd go with go out. I like that when I go out, there are myriad options to choose from. I can have six different beers (and likely have 2-3 I have never had) rather than have a six pack of the same beer.

8 out of 10 times I will stay at home. Every once in a while though I need a good social experience.

#1. I'd choose something that isn't super exciting but never really gets old. Like Fat Tire. A lifetime of ultra cheap Fat Tire might be a little drab, but I'd choose that over one sad beer per month.
