Got a keg of Wipeout in my bar and checked the date on it and it said 8/16/11. Share your thoughts. I already did what I am going to do, just want to hear the jury on this one.

It's your bar, the beers flaws will generally reflect badly on you to the customer. Send it back.

Send it back, I like wipeout (and mondo) but I see a ton of old bomber around me all the time. Its too bad because they're both really good fresh.

Send it back and make sure Port knows about it, assuming this is the distributor's bad.

As of right now, 100% of the poll results say send it back.

    I'd say send it back.

While I am not on the "if an IPA is older than a week drainpour it" bandwagon, I would say send that back.

Since kegs are more or less barrel-shaped, you should sell it as special barrel-aged IPA for fourteen dollars a glass.

I wouldn't even hesitate. They may loose out on the $ of a keg, but you could lose customers and reputation.

Almost 8 months old. That's going to be a malt bomb. Send it back!!

Now that the (unanimous) vote is in, I'm hoping to hear, for entertainment purposes, that you chose a different option from what the entirety of the BA community would've done.

Nobody seems to have suggested the obvious-try it and taste what it's like and then make your decision.Too many assumptions made in the beer world.

1-2 months is fine. 3-4 months is not good but bearable. Coming on 8 months is absolutely unacceptable. Send it back.

Regardless of the taste, I think the expectation needs to be set that the distributor can't slip one past him.

You're right, it could be a pleasant beer, but it's not going to be the beer Port intended him to serve.

If the guy has to come to a consumer beer website to ask if its ok to serve a 8 month old IPA keg or not, do you really think he's got the chops to know if tastes like its in decent shape?

To be fair he has already said he made his decision, seems he was just throwing this out there.

I sort of agree with you Marquis, but I sent it back and the reason I posted this was that when I called my rep about it and said I wanted to send it back, he kind of gave me a hard time. I mean, he didn't refuse to take it back or anything, but proceeded to tell me how other 'reputable' bars had events with this same shipment of beers and had no problems. I told him I didn't really care about other bars and that for future reference, if I ever order an IPA and it is more than a month or two old, call me before you send it because I am probably going to get a different beer. It was more a point of me wanting things the way I want them and not saying, 'well, other people are doing this so it must be ok."

Then he should have no problem continuing to sell his old kegs to those bars. Sounds like everybody can have what they want, right?
