Oh yeah, Wulver. Easily. I would bet a 4 pack that it gets picked 8 of 10 times in a blind test. I think some people forget that price does not directly affect taste.

Both are top notch, high quality beers. I've done a blind taste testing, and I preferred Wulver of Backwoods Bastard, but only by a slight margin. With that being said, I tend to buy Backwoods Bastard more than Wulver, mainly because in my neck of the woods, Wulver is $28.99 a four pack.

Anyone find Backwoods to have a lighter body than last year?
Wulver is not available in my area.

Does BB sit on shelves in some cities? It disappeared immediately in Central Ohio, even with stores selling it at a 1 or 2 bottle per person limit. BB is a great beer and it's nice that it's quite a bit cheaper than Wulver, but who cares if you can't buy it?

I heard that, in Atlanta and surrounding areas, it has a tendency to sit on shelves for a while in certain stores.

Having had both side by side on 3 occasions in the last month or so , everytime I pull them out to taste i must confess that I start with the BB and folks say wow this is really good and I agree as BB is truly World Class . Then i pull out the Wulver and maybe its because its 2nd or maybe because it is all shiny with the gold tin top or maybe because i say ok what till you try this one (needless to say I might be over selling my verdit as this is not a true side by side or a blind taste by any means) but everyone including myself think that the Wulver blows BB away.Wulver might be one of those uber beers, something that will be impossable to get in the upcomming years due to the hype . I know that alot of folks talk about the price and say it is not worth the cost but being that Wulver cellers well , I think this is one of those beers that if you see it Buy it . Take a a loan if nessassary and then hold on to it until that day or special celebration is in order and pull it it. you will be glad you did , if not contact me and I will trade for them any day

I've had both with about a year of age on them and I preferred the Backwoods Bastard slightly over the Wulver. I thought the flavors were a bit more complex and integrated with the BB, whereas the bourbon character of the Wulver dominated all of the other flavors.
