Decided to brew on short notice, so yesterday went to the local brew shop and bought White labs English 002 for my voodoo clone and 001 to have on hand for later.

Made a starter as usual, opened up the vial and it english smelt odd. Looked different, but Oh well, I dont use it often so I guessed it was just different.

This am the starter looked normal. (by this I mean looked like wort, totally homogenous)

This afternoon (24 hrs) it had totally coagulated. Looked like boiled egg whites floating/spinning.

    Will low temperatures cause this?

Decided to split the 6 gal into 2 and pitched the white labs 001 and an extra safer 05 I had.

Did I make a good decision? or just over react?

Thats normal for 002. It looks like egg drop soup on a stir plate. It is a very flocculant yeast and it clumps easily.

Yeah, I was freaked the first time I used Wy-1968...looked like milk that had gone off about 2 months prior.

That's just flocculation. All yeast do it, but the WLP002/Wyeast 1968 strain holds on more tightly than most (all?) strains.
