Depends on whether you are usin DME or grains. DME Yes, definitely use it. Grains... Add it. It won't hurt. But not necessary .

What makes you think there's some automatic difference in nutrient levels between an all grain wort and a wort made from DME?

I use it. Add a half tsp or so during the boil. Seems to work like a champ. Can't see any reason not to use it.

it seems to help my feremtnations, but I have never done a controlled study. They seems to start quicker and finish faster. Plus it is relatively cheap and very easy to use.

I use some for my starters, but not the boil.
I generally do about a 1qt starter, so I use about 1/8 - 1/4 tsp in that boil - I use light DME, boil it for 15 minutes and cool.
The one time I used it in the boil also, I scaled up, so something like 1 tsp (I don't remember, and don't feel like getting my brew book.) The one time I used it in the boil also, I blew the top a day into fermentation.
Never had that happen before, and never since - have needed blow off a couple times, but I never blew the top.

Sorry what I meant to say was all-malt extracts should have enough nutrients that the yeast will need for good fermentation . But if you are brewing with a kit that asks you to add sugar, usually the single can kit. Then you should use nutrient.

I haven't used it for years. I'd have to say that my beers got better after I stopped using it. Don't read anything into that. My beers got better for a lot of reasons. It's not necessary, but it might be helpful.

“Sorry what I meant to say was all-malt extracts should have enough nutrients that the yeast will need for good fermentation.” Well, that is not the case. All malt wort whether from extract or all-grain brewing is lacking in zinc.

    Cheers!

True but since the question has to do with Wyeast smack pack then I am pretty sure these allready have since added to them. Otherwise he would have to add zinc on his own, or find a yeast nutrient with zinc in it. ... And that would be another thread.

I use it 1/8 tsp for each litter of starter worth and 1/4 tsp for 5 gallon at the last 15 min of the boil.
You can also use an one egg shell @15 min, keep the shell in the prime fermenter.
