I had a bunch of two-month old light DME in the fridge that I just used to make a starter. Going forward I'm going to store it in a cool dark dry area with a good seal. Anyway, I boiled for about 10min and cooled to 70F before pitching my WLP051 California V. The smell of the starter wasn't "bad". The color is pretty junky though - it's a muddy yellow-ish brown. Should I be concerned or RDWHAHB? I'm doing a two step starter and will be decanting after the first step and second step. I'll only be pitching the slurry. Thanks for any insight!

Mine is older then that and not stored in the fridge.

DME will last forever (almost) ...if u r having problems with starters, it's not the DME...probably :slight_smile::slight_smile:

DME if stored properly (store in a cool, dry location) will be good for a long time.

    Cheers!
